VERY RARE BON JOVI SLIPPERY WHEN WET LP with U.S. BANNED COVER ART
FOR SALE MY CHERISHED, PERSONAL COPY of the HIGHLY COVETED COLLECTIBLE "SLIPPERY WHEN WET" LP (full & complete) with the original BANNED cover art, lyric sheet and bonus stickers, all circa 1986.
This album was released (and obviously unfairly censored) during the height of the debate about music and artistic censorship in the United States in the mid to late 80s. This particular case actually hearkens back to the roots of America's modern culture wars and the ever present nanny-state debate regarding government asserting its power over artistic speech.
The album cover art (see photos), which is mild under current standards, was originally meant to feature a busty, tan, beautiful (and slightly dirty) woman in a torn, distressed, wet, yellow t-shirt with the words SLIPPERY WHEN WET emblazoned on the front of the shirt.
Unfortunately, due to broad criticism of the recording industry at the time by a political group called the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), led by Tipper Gore (the wife of then Tennessee Democratic senator - and future vice president - AL Gore), record company executives felt pressured to change Bon Jovi's original cover art immediately before the album's release. Record industry executives feared that due to political pressure large record store chains might refuse to stock the LP, which would cripple sales, so they changed the cover art and used the original cover art for overseas markets, such as in France and Japan.
Cover is in very good shape with only minor shelf wear. Album is included and in mint condition. The lyric sheet is included and in mint condition and is printed in both English and Japanese. The original stickers included with all 1st printing copies is also included and in mint condition.
