More than just a best-selling artist, respected guitarist, expressive singer, and accomplished songwriter, Bonnie Raitt has become an institution in American music. The nine-time Grammy winner was named one of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" by Rolling Stone.

After forging an alliance with Capitol Records in 1989, Bonnie achieved new levels of popular and critical acclaim. She won four Grammy Awards in 1990—three for her Nick of Time album and one for her duet with John Lee Hooker on his breakthrough album, The Healer. Within weeks, Nick of Time shot to number one.

The 1989 Nick of Time produced songs like "Thing Called Love", "Real Man", and "Love Letter", leading the album to be her 'come back' album following a bout with drug and alcohol abuse. Bonnie Raitt on her recovery from alcoholism in 1990 "I really feel like some angels have been carrying me around. I just have more focus and more discipline, and consequently more self-respect."

Musicians assisting Raitt with this album include "Herbie Hancock (piano), Graham Nash (backing vocals), David Crosby (backing vocals), and so many more.

Perhaps one of the most famous videos for Bonnie Raitt was "Thing Called Love" which starred Dennis Quaid as an admiring fan.

Bonnie Raitt's "Slipstream" is daring, bluesy, and steeped with the inimitable slide guitar and soulful vocals that could only be hers.  Slipstream marks her first new album in seven years, and the debut for her newly minted label, Redwing Records.

While most of Slipstream is self-produced and features Raitt's longtime touring band, four of the album's songs were helmed by celebrated producer Joe Henry and showcase his usual crew of extraordinary musicians.  Additional guests include Bill Frisell, Al Anderson (formerly of NRBQ), Ireland's Paul Brady, and Maia Sharp.  The album's twelve tracks feature Raitt's renditions of songs by such luminaries as Bob Dylan, Joe Henry, and Loudon Wainwright III.  An updated reggae-fied version of Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line" leads the charge as the album's first single.

Raitt's reinvented version of Gerry Rafferty's hit "Right Down The Line," is the first single from 'Slipstream' and has "just the right note of rueful worldly wisdom - and on her guitar solo, she shreds" (Rolling Stone). The single raced up the AAA radio chart, breaking into the Top 20 in less than 2 weeks and became the most added track at the format well in advance of its official radio launch date.

 FREE BONUS MINT 5 CD SET - Bonnie Raitt's first three albums on Warner -- "Bonnie Raitt" (1971), "Give It Up" (1972), and "Taking My Time" (1973) -- are all terrific, and I recommend each of them for her original songs and covers of blues classics. But from 1974 to 1982, Bonnie hit her stride on the five albums collected in this box set. It's consistently great music: bluesy, full of feeling, no tricks or gimmicks.

She sings 50 songs by brilliant songwriters like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, John Prine, Allen Toussaint, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, Del Shannon (scoring a big hit with "Runaway"), Karla Bonoff, Isaac Hayes, Mary Wells, Bobby Troup, Tracy Nelson, Robert Palmer, and Bob Dylan. Along with her guitar mastery and soulful voice, Raitt's superb taste in song selection has always been one of her strongest assets.

There was a fallow period after these albums, but Bonnie switched to Capitol and came roaring back in 1989 with "Nick of Time," an album that shot her into stratospheric popularity. This was followed by a string of three platinum-selling albums in the 90s: "Luck of the Draw," "Longing in Their Hearts," and "Fundamental." She's put out two reasonably popular albums since then, keeps plugging away in her sixties, and has just released a new, critically-acclaimed CD, "Slipstream."

The product description claims that all five albums in this set are out of print in the US, but that's inaccurate. The final two -- "The Glow" and "Green Light" -- are currently unavailable except through resellers.
