I cleaned the album in our VPI 17 record cleaner and listened to a bit of each side.  Some light surface noise, but it actually sounds better than I expected!  It's at least VG, and plays better than it looks.  The album cover is in the VG+/EX range.  Lots of times people sell this without the inner lyric sleeve inside, but it's included here!

This is a great chance to get two collectible pieces in very good shape.  Born Against in their first solo 7" vinyl release and Born Against with their first full-length LP rekkid album!  We're starting it off low!  The starting bid price is probably lower than what either record is worth on its own, so with both of these together, it's an amazing buy.  Both consistent listenable copies.  Great starters if you've always wanted to own this stuff on vinyl, and possibly in good enough condition to permanently fill those holes!

WIKIPEDIA INFORMATION:
Born Against was a radical leftist American hardcore punk band from New York active between 1989–1993. In addition to their leftist politics, the group espoused a DIY punk message and challenged what they perceived as problematic within the underground hardcore punk community of their time.

The group was founded in early 1989 by guitarist Adam Nathanson and bassist Neil Burke (both formerly of the New York hardcore band Life's Blood), vocalist Sam McPheeters, and drummer John Guzman, who was replaced in early rehearsals by a drummer named George. George's tenure was also brief, and he was replaced after a single show by drummer Nigel Schreiber in July 1989. This lineup recorded a demo cassette and a track for the Murderers Among Us 7" compilation released on McPheeters' Vermiform Records label before Burke and Schreiber left the group in the fall. Born Against would continue to be plagued by rhythm section fluctuation throughout its career.

Six months later, the band reemerged with bassist Javier Villegas and drummer Darryl Kahan, the latter of the popular New York hardcore band Citizen's Arrest. This incarnation of the band produced its first two proper releases, the Eulogy single (whose anti-religious title track was controversially dedicated to Steve Reddy of Equal Vision Records upon his conversion to a Hare Krishna lifestyle) and a self-titled 7" EP, along with several compilation tracks. Late in 1990, Kahan was replaced by drummer John Hiltz, birthing the longest-lasting incarnation of the band. The group toured extensively, and released a debut LP, 1991's Nine Patriotic Hymns for Children, released on Vermiform. Villegas left the group in late 1991 – he would go on to play in the groups Iabhorer and, over a decade later, Kylesa. He was replaced in Born Against by bassist Bret Blue.

By early 1993, Nathanson and McPheeters had relocated to Richmond, Virginia, and begun a new incarnation of the band with bassist Tonie Joy (of Moss Icon and Universal Order of Armageddon) and drummer Brooks Headley (also from Universal Order of Armageddon). Although only extant for seven months, this was a prolific incarnation of the band, who continued to tour and released split 7"s with Screeching Weasel (in which both bands swapped lyrics) and Universal Order of Armageddon. Their radical leftist stance became increasingly drenched in cynicism, which slowly threatened to overtake their message – the results of this evolution are evidenced in the nonsense song "Lillian" and other non-sequitur pieces from this time. Their final release was a split 8" record with Man is the Bastard, and the group played its final show in July 1993.

After the group's demise, members would continue to collaborate in future groups. Men's Recovery Project, McPheeters and Burke's absurdist/ironic noise rock outfit, would feature occasional guest appearances by Headley, Joy, and Nathanson. (Young) Pioneers, Nathanson's proto-folk punk band, also saw membership from Headley and Burke. Additionally, Joy went on to play in The Great Unraveling and The Convocation Of. Most recently, McPheeters and Headley reunited in the Wrangler Brutes, a hardcore punk band extant from 2003–2004.

GRADING STANDARDS from GOLDMINE

VERY GOOD PLUS / EXCELLENT:
Most collectors, especially those who want to play their records, will be happy with a VG+ record,

VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that don’t affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, so long as repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.

VG+ Covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable locataion.

VERY GOOD:
Many of the imperfections found on a VG+ Record are more obvious on a VG record. That said, VG records — which usually sell for no more than 25 percent of a an NM record — are among the biggest bargains in record collecting, because moost of the “big money” goes for more perfect copies. For many listeners, a VG record or sleeve will be worth the money.

VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail.

When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise won’t overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label. Many collectors who have jukeboxes will use VG records in them and not think twice. They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in better shape.

VG covers will have many signs on human handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover, where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious; it may appear on all three sides, thought it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written on it or stamped a price tag on it, too.

GOOD/VERY GOOD MINUS:
Good does not mean bad! The record still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along. But it has significant surface noicse and groove wear. The label is worn and exhibits significant ring wear, heavy writing or obvious damage caused by tring to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably.

REMOVE THE VINYL RECORDS FROM THEIR SLEEVES & LAY THEM DOWN ON A SURFACE TO DISPLAY THEM.
We're rather amazed when we take the care that we do with the vinyl we sell, and then see another seller make more money selling the exact same item
in worse shape, and their picture shows the record out of its cover and out of its sleeve lying on a surface!  I believe the "problem" is that we try to describe every item
in detail so that you'll know exactly what you're getting.  Many sellers will simply say "excellent" "mint" or "great", having no idea what those terms mean in relation to the Goldmine Grading System.  We tell you exactly what you're getting, and even if it's been to hell and back, we still treat it like it's a piece of your mother.  Sometimes it's the detail that screws things up, I think.  If we were vague, like most sellers, you'd just see the name of the band, the title, and a picture, and you'd buy it.  Oh well.

Many sellers seem to have a disregard for the items they're selling and only care about making their pictures look pretty.  We only care about the pieces we sell.  And you.  So you'll see that the records are displayed IN THEIR ORIGINAL SLEEVES, with just a hint of the vinyl showing so that you can see what color they are.  If you want to see the vinyl pulled from its sleeve and resting on a dusty surface, look at someone else's auction or blog and then come back to our page and buy our copy in PERFECT SHAPE.
