This beautiful LP – a superb collector’s copy – from Deutsche Grammophon (SLPM 138 996, German pressing, AH tulip label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features the crack Solisten Berlin in sublime performances of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet and Oboe Quartet, both works recorded in the warm acoustics of the Jesus Christus-Kirche, Berlin, on 3 May 1965 (producer: Rainer Brock / engineer: Heinz Wildhagen).

These are warmly inflect, eminently stylish performances, full of Viennese lilt and charm, and these supreme musicians (players from the BPO) are afforded DG’s finest analog sound.

There are excellent liner notes by Constantin Floros on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German, English, and French. The lovely front photo is credited to Szietasc, Stuttgart. On the back of the jacket the publication date is given as October 1963.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears virtually as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very striking in appearance – overall, a lovely collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
