Description
This is an auction for a rare LP, Brahms Violin Concerto, David Oistrakh, Otto Klemperer, French National Radio Orchestra.
This was released by Columbia records in 1961 and has catalogue number SAX2411. This is the 1st press with a turquoise and silver label and is stereophonic. Please check the pictures for clarification.
Condition: The sleeve has some discolour marks mostly seen on the front, a pen mark on the top rear edge and light buffing the the very corners and mouth edge. Spine & edges ex, no tears, bends or creases. flipback edges ex, complete and graded at VG+. Please check the pictures for clarification on condition, a nice crisp sleeve.
This comes with its original, polythene lined, inner sleeve which has a little creasing but is otherwise in fine condition.
Both labels look clean and new, under the closest of examinations a few spindle trails can be seen on each side. The centre hole shows little, to no, signs of wear, again please check the pictures for clarification, fine labels.
The vinyl retains its brand new shine and looks immaculate, Under a very strong light I can see only a few feather scratches on this, as staed these are only seen when tilted under a very strong light. I have given this a test play through both sides and took the following notes. I must say I did, judging by its appearance, expect this to play mint.
Side 1, Fine entry, superb strong audio, no hiss or background feckling whatsoever. About a third of the way through this side one quiet pop and then two quite loud pops can be heard, one on each rotation. I have checked the vinyl at this point and can not find a mark or scratch, possibly a decent clean may shift it but I am more inclined to think this is a fault rather than a cleanable problem as the vinyl does look superb and not dirty. Anyway some five minutes or so later, perhaps halfway through this side, a quiet tick can be heard for four or five rotations. Again I have checked the vinyl and I can not see a scratch, so It must be a hairline scratch causing this. This is at a very quiet moment in the record and before the violin and orchestra come in, consequently it does sound quite loud, but certainly not a thud. This completely clears before the orchestra and violin arrive, as stated perhaps four or five rotations. Lastly on this side, towards the very end of the side, two quiet pops can just be heard. Again no clue as to why given by the vinyl itself.
Otherwise it sounds superb, the above mentioned surface noises are only heard for a few seconds of this side with the rest playing just about perfectly, occasional very quiet un-noteworthy crackle aside. Strong clear audio, playing with no distortion, fading or dragging whatsoever. The music itself certainly plays with very little, if any, lessening in sound quality and does not appear to suffer from any reduction due to wear. Stunning quiet breaks and entries and except where mentioned sounding new. This side grades at near mint with 98 percent of this side sounding mint.
Side 2, A few very quiet crackles are heard at the very beginning of this side, these soon completely clear before the music comes in fully. About halfway through track one, only two tracks on this side, three quiet dull knocks can be heard. I really have no idea what these are. I have played this back several times and cannot decide whether it is actually the music or a fault. This is certainly not a tick or click but as stated above more like a quiet dull thud noise. The vinyl gives no clue as to why with no mark or pimple found at this spot. A few very quiet crackles are then heard at the very end of the first track, when the music is descending in volume and going into the crossover. This completely clears before the music of track two starts and then goes onto play just about perfectly, with, like side one, the very occasional very quiet, un-noteworthy crackle just heard. Playing with very little, if any, lessening in sound quality and certainly not appearing to suffer from any reduction due to wear. The music itslef plays with no distortion, fading or dragging whatsoever and sounds, like side one, new. This side also grades at near mint, like side one this plays superbly well with fine clear audio for nearly all of this side.
Lastly I have not cleaned this record, it does not appear that it needs a clean and looks immaculate but it may possibly play even better once done.
Graded at VG+ / Near Mint.
