Born 26 October 1967 in Whangarei, New Zealand, though later moved with his parents to Australian where he grew up.
He picked up a guitar at age 6 and knew by age 7 that he would go to Nashville to play country music. By age 8 he was winning country music talent shows and had steady work in a band as a teenager.
Urban made history when his single "Once In A Lifetime" debuted at #17, setting a new record for the highest-debuting country single in the 62-year history of Billboards country charts.
His rock-style guitar work with country music has become Urban's signature style.
