STILL NEW OLD STOCK
PLEASE READ:
I had to carefully open it to try to determine which edition it was because several pressings had the same gatefold-sleeve outer cover.
In 1984 Zen Arcade was released. In 1989 SST reissued it with a barcode. Then in 1990, they reissued this album again in five different colors with no indication on the cover regarding vinyl color, and the barcode was gone again giving the gatefold sleeve the same appearance as the 1984 original. My dilemma was trying to determine if this was an original 1984 pressing or a colored reissue. Since the covers for both 1984 and 1990 were the same, I couldn't tell without opening the factory sealed shrink-wrap. So I gently slit open the wrap on the open end, slid the vinyl out enough to get a shot of the vinyl color and labels (see photos), then put it back in. The vinyl was not even taken out of the inner plastic sleeve, so ...
... this vinyl remains BRAND NEW, UNTOUCHED AND UNPLAYED and the shrink is still intact on the cover except for the open end.
CONCLUSION:
Since there is no barcode, the vinyl is black, "SST 027 $12.98" is on the spine and the
sleeve is cardboard-colored inside (not white like later pressings), the only thing I can deduce is that this is an 1984 pressing. There are no dates besides 1984, on the label or sleeves.
