Reluctantly I'm finally making the move to sell my entire record collection.

Thirty years of collecting vinyl is finally taking its toll on my living space.

Inner sleeve

The inner sleeve is a creamy white, no center holes. Patent number1,125,555 and “Made in Great Britain” text printed in the lower section. I will be supplying a plain white inner along with this for shipping purposes. Grades excellent.

Sleeve

This is a great looking example of a well preserved sleeve. Non laminate cover, and no barcode. No stains or ring wear. Corners are very sharp with very little rubbing. The covers edges are looking good mostly, no edge wear to the top edge, or the spine where the text is clear and visible. The bottom edge suffers little edge wear but does have split a little. It’s in the center and about 1” long however there’s only about 4mm of said split that actually goes right through the cover so with care it shouldn’t get much bigger. Opening edge is flat and in really good condition with little if no feathering. The one thing that is going make me bring this down a grade if the fact that there is a name written in pen on the front cover near the albums title text. Because of this I’m grading it as very good minus, had the name not been there I’d be upping the grade as it looks great over all.

Labels

Traditional Island records labels with the pink rim. Really good looking, clean and free of writing or stickers. Some minor spindle marks present but hey don’t detract from the freshness of the appearance over all. I’m grading them as excellent.

Stamper/ matrix info:

Side one: ILPS 9268- A1 E  GA (@ 1 o’clock position). 1 ( @ 6 o’clock position).

Side two: ILPS 9268- B1 E. T (@ 12 o’clock position). 1 ( @ 6 o’clock position).

Side one audio grade

“Needles in the camels eye” is sounding good quite a wall of sound production wise compared to the comparatively stripped down “Paw Paw” there was some low crackle between the two tracks but nothing uncommon. Baby’s on fire is sound top notch, there’s plenty of quieter moments that could show faults but they don’t, it plays great. “Cindy tells me” sounds fab, some mild crackle between this track and “Driving me backwards” this doesn’t affect the start of the track though. No problems with the audio here on the final track. So, at the end I grade this side as a strong very good. No pops, clicks heard.

Side one visual grade

The vinyl has retained a good sheen. There are some fine marks and mild scratches, there’s a fingernail mark right through all the tracks that hasn’t shown up during playback. Even still the side doesn’t looked thrashed in any way. Unless mentioned in the audio grading above none of the marks have turned up during playback. I’m grading it a strong good plus.

Side two audio grade

Reasonable quiet lead in, intro to “On some faraway beach”  sounds good with some very mild crackle heard in the background. Some minor crackle hear during the piano outro. Once “Blank Frank” kicks in it’s back to great audio throughout. Some crackle between tracks, and a little in the background during the intro of “Dead fink’s” last just a bar or two after that this odd track is sounding great. I did hear a faint click for three revolves, but not 100% sure it wasn’t part of the track, who knows with Eno. Audio sound good though. “Some of them are old” stands the test of time, audio is sounding fine despite being a quiet track , even during the bells section there is only very faint background noise surprisingly. Lastly the title track stands up to the grading check, I heard one low pop, which may be dust. I’ve heard no other pops or clicks throughout this side which is pleasing. So over all it’s a great sounding side, minor background noise in quieter parts or as mentioned. I’m going to give the audio a grade here of very good. A pleasing side.

Side two visual grade

Similar to side one though better. Great sheen, some light hairlines and an obvious scratch over the last two tracks. Well not much turned up during playback which is a good sign. Not pristine, but not trashed at all. I’ll grade it a harsh good plus.

Final thoughts

Not an altogether bad pressing. The audio is generally fine, quieter moments can have a little mild background noise. The vinyl is shiney with some signs of use, doesn’t look like it has been used as a Frisbee. Cover is outstanding albeit for the name written on it. Not perhaps a perfectionists final upgrade, but not fodder for the bargain bin either. For it’s age , it’s not doing to bad.

GRADING

I use the U.K Rare Record Guide grading system detailed below.

MINT The LP or single is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT The LP or single shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD The LP or single has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and an occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and contents without any major defects.

GOOD The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

POSTAGE

All records come with a protective poly sleeve, and new white inner. Records are shipped outside of the sleeve within reinforced cardboard packaging to ensure safety during transit.
