Description
THE BRIKS
Essential Dallas garage 45
Originally known as The Embers when they formed at Texas Tech early in 1965. They relocated to Dallas in the summer of that year and renamed themselves The Briks. Their first 45 of "Can You See Me," sold around 5,000 copies and was a hit locally. It had a Beau-Brummels like sound, while the flipside "Foolish Baby" was a pounding punk number, later compiled on Flashback, Vol. 5 (LP); Texas Flashbacks, Vol. 5 (LP) and Highs In The Mid Sixties, Vol. 13 (LP).
The 45 was leased to Dot for nation-wide distribution but did not become the big hit the band hoped for. Their progress was further interrupted when Cotton, Martin and their manager Reggie Lange were drafted in the summer of 1966 although Cotton later rejoined the band in January 1967 when his original replacement, Paul Ray, left to join The Cobras.
