ONE OF the better obscurities signed to the Island label. Fronted by superior American born vocalist Jess Roden. Other quality members of this rip roaring rural rock band include pre glam rock god super guitarist Robbie Blunt from Silverhead and, later, blues rockers Broken Glass. Interestingly the band was actually formed out of the core nucleus of the Birmingham based Band Of Joy, minus Robert Plant who, of course, went on to join Led Zeppelin. Both bassist John Pasternak and second guitarist Kevyn Gammond were members of Band Of Joy. Look out too for pre Paladin drummer Pete Robinson.
Music is an attractive proggy rural rock crossover with equal parts the Band and Traffic - forceful and dynamic - very period and very English. Roden is the glue that holds the act together - in the same way as say, Steve Winwood.
Getting hard to score these days.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: Island, UK, 1970 - Pink rim label
Vinyl: Nice shiny and clean condition. A few light spindle marks and light signs of use - mainly scuffs and not scratches - a few static pops here and there. Grades as a super lovely Vg+ Most would grade as MINT-!
Cover: Only minor signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated fully laminated gate-fold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams. A couple of minuscule laminate lift spots - see pics. Spine is stiff, straight and uncrushed. Displays just a hint of handling and storage wear. Grades as a very strong Vg+ Most would grade as Ex+
