Description

Extremely rare Brooklyn Baseball Cantata sung by Robert Merrill with the Russ Case Orchestra & Chorus.  This is vintage 1947 RCA Victor DC42 with two 78RPM 10" records in an album binder (see photos).

In 1947, when the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers were competing in the World Series, composer George Kleinsinger wrote the Brooklyn Baseball Cantata, a humorous, largely forgotten work inspired by the cross-town rivalry. The piece, according to a review, is a "stirring depiction of team and civic pride, as well as a rousing, nail-biting account of the last half of the ninth inning with the bases loaded, two out, and the home team down 7-4."  It features lyrics by Michael Stratton.  The recording features Robert Merrill, who himself was a Dodger fan until the team broke Brooklyn's heart by moving to Los Angeles in 1958.

Grading is based on Goldmine criteria and the vinyl is visually graded:

The records are visually graded "VG" condition with moderate surface scuffs consistent with being almost 70 years old; these are 78RPM shellac discs which inherently have surface noise (see photos).

The binder jacket is in "EX" condition with minor signs of wear but the binding is completely intact (see photos).

Due to their fragile nature, these records will be shipped with each disc in its own LP mailer, bubble wrapped for added protection; the mailers will be combined in a larger box along with the album binder.  They will be shipped Priority Mail with insurance and not via Media Mail.  We will send you an invoice when the sale is completed based on your geographic location.

Record grading is visual and based on the following criteria:

“SS” Still Sealed – For the collector that demands nothing but perfection.

“M” Mint - a near perfect or unplayed  record.

“NM” Near Mint - in factory fresh condition, like new.

“EX+” close to like new with only superficial signs of use that don't affect play. Will satisfy all but the most vain and demanding collector.

“EX” a used, reasonable copy. Shows slight signs of wear.

“VG+” There will be obvious signs of wear and a few skuffs and light surface noise, but still quite nice.

"VG" Audible/visible scuffs, scratches and surface noise but plays without skipping.
