Rio de Janeiro songwriter Chico Buarque keeps everything deceptively composed here. 'Cotidiano' runs on a tight, repeating figure, the vocal coming in short, clipped phrases that seem boxed in, like they're trying not to spill over. 'Construcao' takes that and stretches it out, each line landing with a bit more force, the structure holding firm while the voice starts to press against it, which gives it a strange, mounting weight. Then 'Olha Maria' softens things, just a touch, while 'Samba De Orly' loosens the rhythm, letting it breathe a little, though not for long.
