The greatest Buddy Holly box set of all time, PERIOD. This 9 lp box contains almost everything Buddy has done. Truly - literally and figuratively - The Mother Of All Buddy Holly Anthologies, and The Buddy Holly Anthology to end any such.

First LP: Buddy with Bob Montgomery in Wichita Falls 1954-1955. These numbers are mostly recorded in 1955. These guys from Lubbock began singing and playing when they were still going to school together. Some of the songs:Down the Line; Baby, it's Love; Door to my Heart; Queen of the Ballroom.

Second LP: Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes in Nashville in 1956; He began to compose his first songs and he played with Norman Petty, Jerry Allison and C.W. Kendall as The Three Tunes. Some of the songs:That'll be the Day; Love me; Gone; Midnight Shift; Ting A Ling; Girl on my Mind.

Third LP: Early Rock 'n' Roll Demonstrations-Tapes 1956-1957. These were pure demo-recordings which Holly recorded himself on his own machine in order to see whether he was able to play that kind of stuff. A real rarity here is the instrumental number Honky Tonk. Some other numbers: Rip it Up; Shake, Rattle and Roll, Blue Suede Shoes. Also some number from The Crickets wihout Holly and some featuring Holly:It's too Late; Oh Boy; Not fade Away; Someone, Someone; Maybe Baby.

Fourth LP: Buddy Holly & The Crickets in Clovis, New Mexico. (1957-1958); With three young musicians he tryed to get success. Joe B. Maudin (bass), Niki Sullivan (guitar) and Jerry Allison (drums). It was here that Norman Petty produced the first record called That'll be the Day. It became a big hit.Other numbers: Tell me How; An Empty Cup; It's so Easy; Fools Paradise.

Fifth LP: Solo-recordings by The Crickets and Jerry Allison and Buddy in Clovis. Love's make a Fool of You; Look at me; Oh, You Beautiful Doll; Peggy Sue. Also an interview with Buddy Holly with DJ Allan Freed on TV in autumn 1958.

Sixth LP: Buddy Holly solo in Clovis 1957-1958. Apart from numbers with The Crickets some solo recordings were also released and reached top positions in the hitparade. Some numbers on LP 6: Rave on; Little Baby; Heartbeat; Well Alright; Wishing; Dearest; Reminiscing; Take Your Time; Love's Make a Fool of You; You're The One; Come Back Baby.

Seventh LP; Buddy Holly with orchestral (Dick Jacobs) in New York 1958-1959. For the first time recordings with a big orchestra. Some numbers: It Doesn't Matter Anymore; Raining in my Heart; True Love Ways; Learning the Game; What to do; Peggy Sue Got Married; That Makes it Tough.

Eighth LP: Solo tapes from Buddy Holly dubbed by Norman Petty (1959-1969).Some numbers: Slippin'and Slidin'; Bo Diddley; Learning the Game; That's What They Say; Wait Till The Sun Shines Nellie; Crying, Waiting, Hoping.

Ninth (and final) LP: : Buddy Holly solo-tapes dubbed by Norman Petty with the musical Help of Jimmy Gilmer. Also a spoken message on tape sent in 1964 to the Dutch branch of the Buddy Holly Appreciation Society and an interview with Mr. and Mrs. Holly

Some songs: Holly Hop; Blue Monday; That's my Desire; Ain't Got Home.

In the box:   a 16-pages booklet with fantastic pictures, a big 4-coloured poster. Totaly 102 songs and 3 interviews on 9 Lp's;

If you needed one record album to demonstrate what the most popular music of the second half of the 20th century sounded like, this would be it.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL (ALL 18 SIDES / 9 RECORDS) AS NEAR MINT (MOSTLY STRONG NEAR MINT). The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The album comes with the original POSTER still intact.

(c)           The album comes with the original BOOKLET still intact.

(d)          The records are pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl (which varies in thickness and rigidity from relatively thin to rather sold and heavy). This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (box)

THE BOX IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters) (LID ONLY; THE TRAY IS UNAFFECTED);  This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Cover has a partially split spine (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2/5 to 5 centimeters) (TOP ONLY; THE SIDE IS UNAFFECTED);

-        Cover has one corner split; while the other (both on the opening side) is very close to splitting; the two corners on the spine are "open" by design. The lone split corner has been delicately taped

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 3 (back side)

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the bottom seam (VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY)

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
