Amazing !!! An unbelievable piece: What we have here is an unheard-of TEST PRESSING of this Rock & Roll masterpiece - the only Buddy Holy solo album released in his lifetime.  While many test pressings often have alternate or demo- versions of known, later released songs, and while it is possible that this particular test pressing contains demo or alternate versions of some of the tracks, please don’t take our word that it does:

When Buddy Holly & the Crickets broke through nationally in 1957, they were marketed by Decca Records as two different acts whose records were released on two different Decca subsidiaries -- Brunswick for Crickets records, Coral for Holly records. But there was no real musical distinction between the two, except perhaps that the "Crickets" sides had more prominent backup vocals. Nevertheless, coming three months after The "Chirping" Crickets, this was the debut album credited to Buddy Holly. It featured Holly's Top Ten single "Peggy Sue" plus several songs that have turned out to be standards: "I'm Gonna Love You Too," "Listen to Me," "Everyday," "Words of Love," and "Rave On." The rest of the 12 tracks weren't as distinctive, though Holly's takes on such rock & roll hits as "Ready Teddy" and "You're So Square (Baby I Don't Care)" provide an interesting contrast with the more familiar versions by Elvis Presley. This was the final new album featuring Holly to be released during his lifetime. Every subsequent album was an archival or posthumous collection.

Among the  early Rock and Rockabilly albums, this one truly and literally stands out as a  Giant: a Rock’n’Roll classic if ever we saw one.

In 1994 and 1995 MCA records briefly experimented with the revival of the audiophile pressings in their "Heavy Vinyl" series. Much to audio connoisseur's dismay, the label abandoned their effort after releasing only about 5 or 6 titles (which are now prized collector's finds) of which, if our memory serves, only two rock titles were issued: Who's "Who's next" album from 1971 and this, Buddy Holly's first, one and only solo album from 1958. The album, in an unlikely case you are familiar with it, is literally the cornerstone of Rock'n'Roll and one of the finest examples of early and 50's Rock, demonstrating amply all elements of Buddy's warm, witty, charming, slightly nostalgic and blue-tinged brand of R&R. The songs on this album include some of the most recognizable and memorable tunes ever written, including Peggy Sue (like you've never heard it before); Listen to me; Words of Love; You're so square; Rave on; I'm gonna love you too and many many others. From Beatles (individually AND collectively), to Elvis, everyone in the universe covered these immortal tunes over the past 58  years.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           In addition, the record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(d)          True stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
