Description
Buddy Holly had already died in a plane crash in 1959 when this single was released in the UK in 1961(refer 45cat). The songs were taken from his first Coral LP; "Buddy Holly," originally recorded and released in 1958. Such was his popularity and influence in popular music that his record company continued to release singles of his songs well into the 1960's in the UK and the US and here in Australia. The two songs on this record were never released as a 45 single in Australia, and as a consequence it is difficult to find in this country.(They were issued with two other tracks on a 7" EP, "Buddy Holly" CX-5310 in 1959). Both sides are cover versions of other artists' songs, "Baby I Don't Care" was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and was sung by Elvis Presley in his 1957 film "Jailhouse Rock" and "Valley of Tears" was written by Dave Bartholomew and Fats Domino and released as a single by Fats Domino in 1957. The vinyl on both sides is clean and shiny with some hairlines and light paper scuffs, no deep scratches, skips or jumps. It is a LOUD UK pressing and both sides play loud and clear with some low level surface noise on the run in and run out tracks, masked when the music is playing. Both labels are clean, no writing or stickers, however there is a faint mark just above the catalogue number on the "Baby I Don't Care" side, where a label has been removed.(see photo 5) I have graded the vinyl as VG. The cover is an original plain brown paper sleeve, which is what Coral at this time in the UK were using. This is also in great condition, no writing or stickers, I have graded this as VG. There are several audio clips of both these songs on you tube if you haven't heard them before. I have included a plastic EP inner sleeve inside the original paper sleeve to give a bit more protection from scuffing.
