Description
Budgie : In For The Kill! A1/B1 1st Press MCA Label
This genuine first press on the 'rainbow' MCA label plays with very impressive audio and S1 in particular is as close to audio perfection as is possible. The clarity, depth and power of the audio is stunning! S2 does have a little interference but the vast majority still plays to a very high standard.
The cover in in excellent condition with only minor wear and original inner has also withstood the test of time very well.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition with no marks or scratches and still has a very strong glossy sheen. S1 is in great shape with only a small number of faint hairlines and whilst S2 has a few more hairlines it is still very clean. The matrix info on the run out grooves can easily be read and the labels are also in superb condition
Play grading
'In For The Kill' begins superbly with no interference on the intro and already you get a sense of the classic Budgie depth that you only find on vinyl. From then on it plays with great clarity and I only detected one light tick in the middle section. The audio is so clean, each note so precise and yes that depth is incredible! It has not lost any of its original quality and the fade out also plays with barely any 'background'. This is a very strong Mint- start to the album.
There are a couple of static clicks in the dead wax and the classic 'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' then plays with a dynamic power and definition that is mega impressive! I am confident in grading this as Mint as it could not play any better.
'Wondering What Everyone Knows' plays so clearly for an acoustic track and has no obvious 'background' at all. I have played it twice and all I could detect were a very small number of very faint dust ticks, so quiet you could easily miss them. For once it's the vocal that takes centrestage which is a rarity for Budgie! The audio is again so clean and from start to finish this is Mint-
The 'quieter' intro on 'Zoom Club' has barely any static and as the tempo increases the playback is exceptional! A long intro and yet there are no clicks or pops at all. The first verse and chorus are flawless and progresses in exactly the same way. The depth of the audio is very much in evidence again here and the entire 'foot-tapping' instrumental section is absolutely stunning! Bourge's solo work is so powerful and there is no distortion on the top end. As the vocal finally comes back in the playback cannot be faulted and almost to the end it plays so well. Almost. Right at the end there are 3/4 clicks but they are hidden in the music to a certain degree. Despite this it still deserves a Near Mint grade as the rest is just so darn good!

'Hammer And Tongs' has a very quiet intro of course and yet it plays extremely well with only minimal static and a couple of static ticks, just one is slightly louder. As Bourge comes in the audio is superb, there is no interference, and the first vocal section is also faultless. From then on the playback is very impressive with that familiar deep and powerful Budgie sound and whilst I heard one light click it is very much 'hidden' in the music. The next quiet section is so 'clean' and has no obvious 'background' at all and Bourge's solo that follows is very strong with just the one click that is again somewhat in the background. The fade out is very clean - just one click right at the end when you're more or less in the dead wax! I think Ex+ is a fair grade here.
The intro on 'Running From My Soul' is nigh on perfect with just one tick and from then on plays with stunning power and clarity. There is just a minimal amount of barely audible static in the quieter section and the remainder plays with sublime precision. Near Mint overall.
'Living On Your Own' has only very minimal static on the intro plus a couple of light clicks and then plays very well for the vast majority. The power and depth of the audio is very strong and the first vocal section is perfect. It continues in the same way although the quieter mid section does have some light static and two further static clicks. As the volume increases the playback is stunning with no 'background' of any kind. This entire instrumental section is superb and it can certainly be turned up to 'loud' with no distortion. The final vocal section has no interference and the percussive/guitar end section plays with sublime quality to the final note. This is difficult to grade in a way - I think I will say Ex on the first half but Mint- for the second.
In summary this first pressing plays to a very high standard and S1 especially is stunning with no interference at all. Yes there is a little interference on S2 but this is fully documented above and is only minimal. The actual clarity of the music is still very impressive and there is barely any static. An impressive first press overall.
The Cover
The fully laminated G&L cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear. The top edge is very clean apart from one very small area of wear in the centre but is not a split. The bottom edge has only very little rubbing and the thin pinched spine is perfect and is obviously 100% legible. The corners are also in great shape with next to no wear and the opening edge is also very close to perfect. The laminated front cover is in lovely condition with no marking and only a little laminate lift next to the spine, a common thing on these type of covers. The back cover is almost as good but does have a couple of laminate creases that are a little more obvious. In excellent order overall.
The Inner Sleeve
The original die-cut plain white inner has no side splits, tears or marking and only minimal creasing. A fine example.
The Labels
The 'rainbow' MCA labels are in superb condition with no marking or writing and only minimal spindle wear.
