• RARE ABSOLUTE 1ST PRESS MONO 1966 US original of their rare debut LP for the ATCO label pressed on the gold & gray label (see photos). If you have not heard the mono pressing of this one you are in for a real treat. This copy includes the rare deleted track "Baby Don't Scold Me" which was deleted shortly after release in favor of the hit "For What It's Worth" on all later pressings.
• The LP is pressed on thick non flexible ATCO vinyl and comes protected in the original ATCO custom paper inner sleeve (see photos).
• The ORIGINAL MONO ANALOG mixes are full bodied with incredible fidelity and are significantly superior to any STEREO or later pressings.
• This beautiful ATCO cover is manufactured from thick American cardboard stock with a pasted on back paper slick (see photo).
• Do not be fooled by inferior digital re-mastering, re-mixes or compilation CD's. This is an original ANALOG recording; the real thing.

Apart from the Byrds, no other American band had as great an impact on folk-rock and country-rock; really, the entire Californian rock sound; than Buffalo Springfield. The group's formation is the stuff of legend: driving on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay spotted a hearse that Stills was sure belonged to Neil Young, a Canadian he had crossed paths with earlier. Indeed it was, and with the addition of fellow hearse passenger and Canadian Bruce Palmer on bass and ex-Dillard Dewey Martin on drums, the cluster of ex-folkys determined, as the Byrds had just done, to become a rock & roll band.

Buffalo Springfield wasn't together long they were an active outfit for just over two years, between 1967 and 1968 â??but every one of their three albums was noteworthy. Their debut, including their sole big hit (Stills' "For What It's Worth"), established them as the best folk-rock band in the land barring the Byrds, though Springfield was a bit more folk and country oriented. Again, their second album found the group expanding their folk-rock base into tough hard rock and psychedelic orchestration, resulting in their best record. The group was blessed with three idiosyncratic, talented songwriters in Stills, Young, and Furay (the last of whom didn't begin writing until the second LP) yet they also had strong and often conflicting egos, particularly Stills and Young. The group, who held almost infinite promise, rearranged their lineup several times, Young leaving the group for periods and Palmer fighting deportation, until disbanding in 1968. Their final album clearly shows the group fragmenting into solo directions.

Eventually, the inter-personal tensions and creative battles led to a perhaps inevitable split, starting with Young's departure for a solo career. He would later reunite with Stephen Stills in Crosby, Stills, & Nash, joining the trio once a decade for various projects. In addition to CSN, Stills released solo albums and worked with another band, Manassas. Initially, Jim Messina and Richie Furay stayed together, forming the country-rock group Poco, but Messina left after three albums to team up in a duo with Kenny Loggins. Furay himself left Poco and teamed with Chris Hillman and JD Souther in the Souther Hillman Furay Band before pursuing a solo career. Rumors of a Buffalo Springfield reunion circulated for years; Young even hinted at it with the song "Buffalo Springfield Again"; but it never materialized. (AMG)

This is their 1967 US Atco Debut LP. It rarely comes around in glorious MONO in wthe the deleted track. The Mono mixes for these great songs are vastly different than their stereo counterparts. Please see the cover photos for the track listing. This is a clean copy of this rare LP. I'll let the market decide what this one is worth. Please bid accordingly. Record Condition: Side 1 & 2: Very Good+ ...the super thick non-flexible vinyl has full LIKE NEW gloss with only light surface marks. The ATCO labels are very clean with no writing, stains or stickers and only light wear around the spindle holes (See photos). The listener can easily enjoy the outstanding MONO fidelity that the absolute 1st US MONO pressing is known for.

Cover/Jacket Condition: Very Good++ ...the front cover is very clean (see photo). The back cover is also clean with only very light wear (see photos). The seams are intact with light wear (see photo). The spine is intact and lettering sharp (see photo). No cut corners, cut out holes, saw marks, tears, writing, indents, razor marks, stickers, dirt or dust spots, mildew or mold spots, age yellowing, stamps, warping, bar codes, or glue marks. This is a beautiful US MONO first cover for this rare LP.

Vinyl Grading Policy:

• All records and jackets are visually graded unless noted otherwise. CAUTION: Please be aware that the play grade may differ from the visual grade. If you want me to play a particular song and give you an assessment of background noise, etc. Please email me. We all have records that look worn but play great and vice versa. It is not possible to play as well as visually grade each LP listed. I TRY TO GRADE CONSERVATIVELY under the guidelines on this page, which generally follow the GOLDMINE standards. Although I try to be conscientious as a grader, there is the possibility that something could slip by me. In the event an item is not as described, REST ASSURED I will always offer a money back guarantee for purchase price of the item if returned safe and secure and requested within five days of receipt.
• Mint = A mint item must be absolutely perfect. Certainly never been played if not still sealed. This would be an item where it was opened but not played maybe just to check the label variation.
• Near Mint = The record shows no obvious signs of wear. The vinyl should show no wear from playing only the slightest of paper scuffs are acceptable. The jacket should look as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink-wrap.
• Near Mint-/Very Good++ = The record or cover is clearly better than VG+ but not Near Mint. There should be some signs that the vinyl was played infrequently and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took excellent care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have light scuffs and or very minor light scratches that do not affect the listener experience at all. The label and spindle hole will be without flaws other than the lightest of spindle trails from being played only a few times if at all. The cover should be bright and sharp and will have only the very first evidence of discoloration or ring wear or creased corners. Although there may be some evidence of seam/spine wear, seam splits are not permitted for this grade. The jacket may be marked as a cut out by a drill hole, saw mark, cut corner or punch hole. I will try to list any cover flaws of significance.
• Very Good+ = This is equivalent of the VG+ grade in Goldmine. The record will show signs that the vinyl was played but taken care of. Record surfaces will show signs of wear including some light scratches/scuffs that do not significantly affect the listener experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Spindle holes will have some wear but not be enlarged or damaged in any way. The cover will have general wear/ring wear but not to the extent that it materially impairs enjoyment of the picture cover. Slight seam splits are OK for this grade. Again I will try to list any cover flaws of significance.
• Very Good = Unless it is a rare collectible, I usually will not sell records where both the cover and vinyl are below a VG+ grade PERIOD. This grade is included since some times there may be either a cover or record that the flaws in VG+ grade above are more pronounced but the other part of the package is of a higher grade. If it is the vinyl I will play grade it to be sure that the listener can still enjoy the music.
• BID WITH CONFIDENCE! All items are FULLY GUARANTEED. If requested within five days of receipt, I will refund your full purchase price (excluding refund of shipping costs) upon return of the item if you are not satisfied, period. If you want protection related to lost or damaged shipments you must insure your winnings. I pack all records removed from the jacket, sandwiched between corrugated cardboard before insertion into the mailer box. Many times I will also use bubble wrap or a box inside a box packing method to further protect your item.
• I do not grade inner sleeves but will let you know if there are any inserts, posters, stickers or other items included with the RECORD or TAPE.
