Original U.S. Mono White Label Promotional Copy – 1967

Scarce mono white-label promo of Buffalo Springfield's celebrated second album, featuring Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay. The mono issue carries catalog number 33-226, as opposed to SD 33-226 for the stereo release, and contemporary discographic sources confirm the album was issued in both mono and stereo in 1967.

The white ATCO labels are boldly marked “SAMPLE COPY – NOT FOR SALE.” This is the desirable dedicated mono promotional issue rather than a later stereo reissue.

Album is purportedly signed by Stephen Stills on the front cover. It come from a deceased person's estate, so I wasn't able to discuss how the autograph was obtained. The family told the estate executor that he was an autograph hound who traveled to shows in the Washington D.C.- New York corridor to get autographs (mostly after the fact from the mid-1970s - 2000s) and also bought them from record stores. Because I don't know him personally, or his reputation on the secondary market, I am hence selling the autograph as "attributed" to Stills. I will give the buyer one year to return the item, so they have time to get the autograph checked out if they'd like to.

Condition

Cover rates VG+... some wear along the seams. Vinyl rates VG+... a few very light inconsequential marks visible in raking light.

My grading system:

STILL SEALED : Jacket imperfections, if any, will be described. Vinyl guaranteed to be in unplayed condition. 

M : I don't use this grade, on the assumption that no record or jacket is truly flawless.

M- : Vinyl appears unplayed, jacket bears no signs of wear. I rarely, if ever, use this grade. 

NM : Like M-, with possible scintilla/whiff of an imperfection

VG++ : May have a couple very minor imperfections. (superficial marks that have little or no bearing on sound.) Jacket may have a couple very minor flaws.

VG+ : Like VG++, but with a few more light imperfections

VG : Several light imperfections, and possibly one or two more serious ones, such as small feelable scratches. Still plays well.  

VG- : Will display numerous minor imperfections and/or feelable scratches that affect playback quality. Between you and me, you could do better. 

GOOD : What I consider pretty poor... numerous major imperfections. I generally don't sell items in this range unless they are of major significance.
