One of the greatest debuts in the history of rock, Mr. Tambourine Man was nothing less than a significant step in the evolution of rock & roll itself, demonstrating that intelligent lyrical content could be wedded to compelling electric guitar riffs and a solid backbeat. It was also the album that was most responsible for establishing folk-rock as a popular phenomenon, its most alluring traits being Roger McGuinn's immediately distinctive 12-string Rickenbacker jangle and the band's beautiful harmonies. The material was uniformly strong, whether they were interpreting Bob Dylan (on the title cut and three other songs, including the hit single "All I Really Want to Do"), Pete Seeger ("The Bells of Rhymney"), or Jackie DeShannon ("Don't Doubt Yourself, Babe"). The originals were lyrically less challenging, but equally powerful musically, especially Gene Clark's "I Knew I'd Want You," "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better," and "Here Without You"; "It's No Use" showed a tougher, harder-rocking side and a guitar solo with hints of psychedelia.

If you thought that SONY's 20-bit mastered Compact Disc edition of this album was the best thing since sliced bread - forget it!!! You haven't heard the REAL THING yet. The real thing is this STILL SEALED M-O-N-O vinyl copy of this BEAUTIFUL folk-rock classic from 1965. Just hearing the timeless classic title song or absolutely gorgeous cover of Bobby Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom" in gorgeous, resplendent mono version is in itself worth the price of admission. And that's just the beginning: from the opening chord, to the closing twang, this is one chockful of ear candies that never stops to amaze and inspire. A contribution of late, great Gene Clark to this album is truly monumental. This is a genuinely fantastic listening experience. This copy is the ORIGINAL 1965 US Columbia pressing of this album (CL-2372). Old Byrd-o-philes already know that Byrds mono albums boast massively different (and sometimes far superior!) mixes from their stereo counterparts, and we can't even begin to describe the magnitude of the difference. A feast for the ears, if we ever had one!!!

As for the album itself: from the opening chord, to the closing twang, this is one chockful of ear candies that never stops to amaze and inspire. A contribution of late, great Gene Clark to this album is truly monumental. This is a genuinely fantastic listening experience. This copy is US Columbia MONO pressing of this album.  A feast for the ears, if we ever had one!!!

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG+(+). A few light abrasions (mostly just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
