Records are graded visually in bright light with an experienced eye.
Vinyl grade: Most are NM- to NM; a few are EX with a tiny scuff or fingerprint. One side has a light scratch across the playing surface that will probably sound but should not skip. A few are slightly domed.
Box condition: light shelf wear with no splits, markings, or other damage.
Grading scale:
(I will take a grade off for spindle marks. For instance, if the vinyl is EX but has more than a stray spindle mark or two, I will grade it as EX-.)
NM Opened but looks unplayed; no scuffs, scratches, or spindle marks.
NM- A light scuff or two.
EX A few light scuffs or non-sounding spotting.
EX- More light scuffs, a very light hairline or two.
VG+ Some scuffing, a few hairlines.
VG More scuffing, some lighter scratches.
VG- Heavy scuffing, several scratches.
