Otto Büchner: violin (Rundbogen) (bent bow)

Label: Calig Munich, Germany. Cat.No.30 403. Stereo. From 1973. Original first and only German Stereo edition. Club edition.

Record: plays in mint- to near mint condition. No visible or audible defects, as far as I see by play grading and visually inspecting. Big sound!

Cover: grades excellent-. Minor edge wear, 3 spots abraded. Cover is in total clean, crisp and sturdy.

Review: The bent bow or round arque for the violin makes an artistic event of first ranking audible. It develops polyphonia chords on the solo instrument. The violinist Otto Büchner plays his violin, an old masterviolin of Antonio Stradivari from 1727, with a bent bow as it was used in Bach's time. As so all 4 strings can be played at the same time, polyphonic play is possible.

Otto Büchner (1924-2008) was professor for violin at the University of Music in Munich, capital of Bavaria, Germany, and former concert master at the Bavarian State Opera Munich. He is highly acknowledged as a specialist for the performance of the Bach Solo Sonatas for violin. Please read the commentary text on the backcover.
