1973 TELEFUNKEN 6.35345 Stereo, Virgin Vinyl 3-LP box set
Virgin vinyl LPs, box, insert, and all original poly-lined inner sleeves are LIKE NEW in beautiful near mint condition (our highest grade for an opened item!). Has been stored in a protective plastic sleeve (to prevent shelfwear) and between cardboard liners (to keep corners intact and like new), and kept upright in a smoke & pet-free, climate controlled home. I am the original owner. I purchased this when it first came out in 1973 as a back-up copy, about a week after I purchased my first copy and realized it is one of the best recordings ever made. I am selling the like new/unplayed copy, since my playing copy is still in great shape. BTW, the whiteness that shows up on the top and bottom of the jacket edges in the photo of the back of the box is just a reflection caused by the flash.
There is absolutely nothing like this recording -- and this is THE BEST COPY YOU WILL FIND, as I have NEVER seen a sealed copy of this set available on eBay, or anywhere else for that matter since the late 1970's!!!
I purchased my first copy of this title immediately upon its release, and felt it was incredible beyond description. So I bought a second copy about a week later, just in case. Since the copy I play is still plays virtually flawlessly, I am selling this backup copy, which is unplayed! The box and inner sleeves are also like new. The insert is also like new, with no discoloration. There is one small wrinkle near the upper right corner of the insert, which is barely noticeable, and which was there when I originally opened it. This set has become a rare collectible item -- for good reason! It is far and away the best performance of one of man's greatest achievements, Bach's transcendent Suites for Solo Cello. This is not hyperbole. If you've never heard this set, you are in for the musical treat of your life!
While versions of these pieces performed by Andre Levy, Annlies Schmidt, Enrico Mainardi, and Eva Pedrazzi often sell for more than Honegger's, they are not nearly as uniformly incredible as Honegger's 1972 performance (this set!) in my view. As an added bonus, the recorded sound by Valois here is nothing short of spectacular. Finally, unlike the Valois French pressings of this title or Honegger's 1959 version (some of which go for thousands of dollars), this 1973 pressing by Teldec in Germany on virgin vinyl (they were the first company to master this technique; in fact, you can hold these LPs to the light and see through them much like the MFSL or DCC pressings made in Japan several years later) has ultra-quiet surfaces and STUNNINGLY GREAT and CONSISTENTLY AWESOME sound quality -- FAR SUPERIOR to the sound of the Valois pressings, and without any of the surface noise!!! Teldec used the original Valois master tapes, and members of the original Valois production team worked with Teldec to produce this set. Honegger's 1972 performance is also far more exciting in my view and at the same time far more precise (and of course WAY better sonically) than his 1959 effort!
