COMMENTS: The original and still unsurpassed mono recording of Bach's suites. The box is clean and attractive, the label edge quite legible, the front illustration still rich and evocative; the front and back have cleanly separated, there is rubbing wear to the back side of all 3 non-label side seams (but all still quite sturdy), front seams are very sound, corners very clean and sound, a little rubbing to the illustration and a little dust-soiling to the edges. Very presentable given its age. The booklet is clean and unworn. The labels are a small miracle: no wear at all to the spindle holes, no spindle marks to the labels proper, the colors still bright and even (and darker than displayed in the best image our camera could give us; more of a Mercury burgundy). The vinyl is very impressive: still bright and very clean, there is some evidence of sleeve scuff and a few light marks otherwise, nothing more. The playback, and the LPs were extensively sampled, was outstanding: there is some very light and very occasional surface noise but this never intruded on the music. To repeat, VERY light and VERY occasional. No clicks, no pops, no skips. Starker solo, Starker pure.
