Early USA mono pressing of these essential early electronic compositions. Genese is a purely electronic work which uses a just intonation tuning system; "the sounds grow out of silence, and develop into plastic moving shapes." Evolutions is a suite of 6 short electronic pieces which range from carefully structured noise to playful pop- and jazz-influenced portions; Badings based one section on ragtime and injected it with "ecstatic breaks of electronic percussion." Capriccio was one of the first attempts at combining electronic music with a traditional live instrument; here Joke Vermeulen performs the violin part, which incorporates microtones, while Badings realized the electronic part using 12 oscillators. Closing the album is the brief but stunning Raaijmakers composition (his earliest), an "electronic play of rhythm and sound" and a masterpiece of musique concrete, made out of processed sounds of an Ondes Martenot (the early electronic keyboard instrument invented in 1928). All of the pieces were realized at the physics laboratories of Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken in Eindhoven, Holland; Badings' works were made with the engineering assistance of the young Raaijmakers. Badings was a geologist and composer who studied under Willem Pijper; he experimented with microtonal scales like Harry Partch, Ivan Wyschnegradsky, Alois Haba, John Eaton, Terry Riley, La Monte Young, and Easley Blackwood, and was an early electronic music pioneer during the 1950s and 60s along with Pierre Schaeffer, Luc Ferrari, Herbert Eimert, Robert Beyer, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Otto Luening, Edgard Varese, John Cage, Rune Lindblad, Bengt Hambraeus, etc. He founded the Philips electronic music studio in Eindhoven. • Raaijmakers is a composer, installation artist, and theoretician and an electronic music pioneer at the Philips studio in the 50s (along with Badings) and at the University of Utrecht in the 60s (where Gottfried Michael Koenig and Zoltan Pongracz also worked). He has worked with Jan Boerman (with whom he shared a studio) and Gilius van Bergeijk, and he created with Tom Dissevelt some of the earliest electronic pop under the alias Kid Baltan in The Electrosoniks (which would go on to influence artists like Pierre Henry, Jean-Michel Jarre, Paul Beaver, Bernie Krause, Aphex Twin, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Gershon Kingsley, Hrvatski, Dick Hyman, Raymond Scott, etc.). • Will be of interest for fans of Francois Bayle, Bernard Parmegiani, Jon Appleton, Tod Dockstader, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Henri Pousseur, Earle Brown, and Ilhan Mimaroglu.

Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers which I have determined are the best and most protective, reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
