Description
You are bidding on a 12" Vinyl LP from the excellent Balham Alligators, Life in The Bus Lane.
To the best of my knowledge this is an extremely rare album. I have never seen another one on eBay and as far as I know it was never even released as a CD. I checked Amazon. They don't have it either. There is mention of an import version on "cassette", but even that is "not available".
Many items on eBay are called RARE. I believe this is more than justified for this album. It's a great album too! In fact, I always wished they'd released it on CD.
This is from my own personal collection. It’s time to make some space so sadly I am selling my vinyl collection. Please check out my other items for sale.
If you're reading this I guess you may already know about the Balham Alligators. If not, they played a mixture of Cajun, Swamp, Rock 'n' Roll, Zydeco, Blues, Rhythm & Blues and Country. Check them out on Wiki and you'll see they had a number of band line-ups. The brilliant Geraint Watkins (who has played with just about anyone who matters) was a permanent fixture of this band along with members Robin McKidd, Gary Rickard, and on this album Pete Dennis (Bass) and the drummer, Kieren O'Connor, who I believe sadly died in 1991 (Wiki) three years after this album was made.
Tracks: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY. The track list on the cover and the album's labels are in a different running order when you actually come to play the album. I don't know if this was a printing error at the time of manufacture, whether it was ever corrected or whether this is an even rarer copy than I imagined! On the album I have, the track list is shown as follows:
Side 1. Cajun Walk / Diggy Diggy / It's my Own Business / Swamp / Fine Fine Fine / Love Has No Price.
Side 2. Alligators Grinning / Big Mamou / What've You Got To Lose / I Don't Wanna Be In Love / Feel Like a Fool
The actual running list is
Side 1
Alligators Grinning
It's My Own Business
Diggy Diggy
What've You Got To Loose
Fine Fine Fine
Feel Like a Fool
Side 2
Cajun Walk
Swamp
Big Mamou
I Don't Wanna Fall in Love
Love Has No Pride
I hope I've explained that clearly.
For the vinyl collectors looking in, the following information is available:
Label: Special Delivery
Year: 1988
Catalogue No: SPD 1018
Additional Matrix number information: It seems there was confusion when scratching the details in as well. Side 1 SPD 1018 (B1 scratched out) A1 Also the initials MPO scratched in. Side 2 SPD 1018 (A1 scratched out) B1 and MPO again.
Stereo.
Condition:
Cover: Single sleeve. Clean front and back. Small pinhead size brown dot, top left, but I think it's in the print. Bottom right hand corner at opening, approx. 2mm of wear. Top and bottom I can't see any sign of shelf wear. Spine has a little wear (not broken or split) part of the word "The" in "The Balham alligators", parts of the words "the" and lane" in "Life in The Bus Lane" have worn away. Otherwise very readable including catalogue number.
Inner sleeve: White paper - very clean
Record: There is some light finger marking and a couple of hairline surface scratches. I have recently acquired a turntable to assist in listing my albums. I have played this one all the way through. There is no jumping or skipping and no sticking at all. There is the occasional "click" noise or scratch noise. I noticed a couple of scratch noises in What've You Got to Lose, and some clicks in Swamp, Big Mamou and I Don't Wanna Fall in Love. I guess about 6 - 8 noises in total across the whole album. I didn't find them particularly obtrusive but feel I should mention them anyway.
I'm not an expert, but compared with how others seem to grade LP’s on eBay I would say this whole package is VGC/VGC+
Describing the condition of items is very subjective.(one man’s treasure is another man’s junk etc). I will always try to be as honest as possible in describing the items. I would rather be honest from the outset, than end up with a disappointed winning bidder. I buy things on eBay as well and would expect the same honesty from others.
Items will be dispatched by Royal Mail First Class post. I will obtain a receipt for postage, but cannot accept responsibility for items not delivered. I understand “standard” first class mail is insured for items up to a value of £20.00. If you would prefer items insured for more, tracked, special delivery, recorded and “signed for” delivery, please contact me prior to paying.
Depending on the value of final winning bids, I may decide to post it on a "signed for" basis for my own peace of mind.
There is no reserve on this item.
