Description
This the superb soundtrack for the 1968 cult erotic Sci Fi thriller Barbarella, pressed in 68 on Stateside Lable SSL 10260, this a super Sci Fi rareity from Dino De Laurentiis. The film was based on the French 'Barbarella' comic book created by Jean-Claude Forest. The film starred Jane Fonda in the title role as the very futuristic and very sexy space traveller Barbarella who has numerous adventures, most of them erotic encounters with sundry characters while fulfilling her mission journeying around the Galaxy in AD 40,000. Also starred David Hemmings as Dildano and Ugo Tognazzi as Mark Hand.
In the film Barbarella is tasked to track down Durand Durand, a mad scientist and villain after he is thought to have taken knowledge of weapons to a primitive and dangerous culture. This is a lounge lizard fans dream, with groovy late 60's psychedelic strings, guitars and vocals. Many great tracks, favourites include Barbarella, love love love drags me down, scorching instrumentals like 'spaceship out of control' and the erotic 'sex machine' and 'chamber of dreams'. Lyrics and music by Bob Crewe and Charles Fox, with the Bob Crewe Generation Orchestra, songs sung by the Glitterhouse and Bob Crewe.
One of the films biggest realms of influence has been in the world of music, 80's British pop group Duran Duran took their name from the Barbarella character Durande Durande. Kylie Minogue used the iconography of Barbarella in a pop video when she recreated the infamous zero gravity striptease in her 1994 video 'put yourself in my place'. .....Prince, Jamiroquai, fuzzbox, stone temple pilots, velvet revolver all influenced at some stage and the band Matmos taking their name from the underground fluid creature in the film (as does the lava lamp manufacturer Mathos)
A superb rareity and in superb condition. The record warrants grading of all sides as follows: I cannot see any spindle marks on the A side of the record and only 2 faint ones on B side, very minimal play. The front of sleeve is in excellent condition though it does have a slight fold mark top right corner and corners are slightly worn, rear of sleeve, as can be seen is spotless without a mark or crease. Grading as follows front sleeve (ex) rear sleeve (ex+) Record is superb and graded A side (ex+) B side (ex).
