Here for auction: ASD 596/7 Sir John Barbirolli conducts Mahler's 9th Symphony: 2 LP set. UK first red semi-circle label's and thick vinyl.Laminated front cover. Matrix side 1 2YRA 13-1 stamp 1 G Matrix side 2 2YRA 14-3 stamp R side 3 2YRA 15-3 stamp A
I have checked parts of both sides of the first disc and large selections from the second, for sound quality on a Thorens TD160 with Shure M75 cartridge, Roksan Kandy RA mk III amp and B & W DM 603 floorstander's. I hope this gives a fair representation of the disc's quality in the description below.
Vinyl: Disc one is visually a strong EX condition.Looks clean with a nice shine but it does have just a few light,minor marks when viewed up close.None of these seem to affect sound at all.Audiowise the disc is EX+.I played both sides all the way through and only heard a few very light tics and some very light crackle in a couple of places only.I was surprised just how excellent the disc sounded...The disc lies flat and has no warping or kinks and the sound quality is very fine indeed with clear and undistorted reproduction.
Disc two is even better and is NM.There is only one side of music with the other being blank.This side three is near perfect.No marks and great sound.
Cover's are EX/EX+ condition. ASD 596 has more wear with the white card on the back a bit discoloured.It also has some staining on the back (seen in photo) and a small corner crease.All else is pretty good...ASD 597 is EX+ and has little wrong at all.Still nice and crisp/clean.
Label's EX+ Can hardly see any spindle marks or any other marks or blemishes at all.
