ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful 13LP box set – a superb collector's copy – from La Voix de son Maitre / EMI (2 C 165-50005/17, French pressing, colored dog-in-stamp label, stereo, booklet included, cloth box) features Daniel Barenboim's first – and finest – cycle of Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas, recorded during 1966-1969 at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, London. These performances are imbued with a thrilling sense of discovery, majestic and yet intensely communicative, and the sound is first rate throughout.
While these recordings are hardly rare, this particular issue is, and it arguably represents the most handsome issue this cycle ever received on LP, housed in a heavy cloth box with gilt lettering and a full-size, 12-page booklet with superb notes on the music by Philippe Andriot – all texts printed in French only.
A word about the price: Aside from the rarity of this particular edition, and its extremely fine condition, there is the matter of the weight of the set. I offer "free" shipping, but of course I must pay for the shipping. This set will weigh close to 3 kg. and mailing it outside of Europe (i.e., to the USA or the Far East) will cost approximately $85.00. Please keep this mind when making a best offer. Thank you.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the box is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the box appears as new. There are no corner breaks, seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, nor even edgewear. Overall, this rates as a truly gorgeous collector's copy.
The condition of the full-size, 12-page booklet is near-MINT. There are no flaws to speak of – a superb copy.
The condition of the 13 LPs is near-MINT throughout. I believe this to be an unplayed copy, though I cannot guarantee this. Visually, they retain a high gloss and are free of spindle trails, though there are paper sleeve marks. In terms of sound, surfaces are not absolutely silent (thus, I have not rated it as MINT), but really they are superb. If you must a perfectly flawless copy, then do not buy this set. Overall, these LPs rate as truly fine collector's copies.
