Vinyl lp 12" EVE OF DESTRUCTION by Barry McGuire, released 1965 on Dunhill (D-50003), mono. 
Self-important hippies might have shunned Mister Eve Of Destruction when he turned to Jesus but say what you want about his 1965 solo album--it's a pretty solid production. Bob Dylan prayed to God he could get away with a pop production backed by the Wrecking Crew without being roasted by the critics. Lou Adler--probably with help from Papa John Philips--envisioned a perfectly melodic take on Folk's earnest commercial appeal. Former surf-dude P.F. Sloan and songwriter partner Steve Barri came up with the designs. Hal Blaine provided polish and The Big Beat. For a short period, McGuire was to become the Face of Protest. Too bad Sloan didn't have the staying power to take over the world. EVE OF DESTRUCTION, The Grassroots' LET'S LIVE FOR TODAY, plus Sloan's early Dunhill solo efforts are glimmering jewels of 60's folk- and psych-pop.
