Description
Riverside RLP 12-645, “Minstrel of the Appalachians” with Bascom Lamar Lunsford and his Banjo”, with Freda English, from 1956. This is the original white-label pressing, and the jacket looks to be in the original loose baggie-style sleeve that was common before shrink wrapping. The vinyl plays at NM with virtually no background sound. The jacket, is in generally superb condition though there’s a stain of some kind on back along the lower left edge (see scan), and there is some age coloration. This LP made Lunsford into something of a household word among folkies outside the South. Songs are “Poor Jesse James”, “Go to Italy”, “Merry Golden Tree”, “I Shall Not Be Moved”, “Derby Ram”, “Old Man from the North Country”, “Miller’s Will”, “Sundown”, “Fly Around My Blue-Eyed Girl”, “Black Jack Davy”, “Weeping Willow Tree”, “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”, “Sailor on the Deep Blue Sea”, and “John Henry”. Shipping is $4.00 media mail, $8.00 priority mail within the continental U.S.; $18.00 regular airmail to the U.K., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. A few record labels such as Folkways may be slightly more expensive to ship overseas. Additional LPs in a single package are $1.00 additional within U.S. and Canada, $2.00 elsewhere. For overseas shipments, registered mail is strongly recommended at $11.75 extra. Many old records are practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with the record inside an inner sleeve but outside the jacket; both are placed inside a sealed outer sleeve and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on all sides. It is designed thick enough not to be bent in transit and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window. More than two LPs together may be mailed inside a heavy Bags Unlimited pizza-style box. Your LP should arrive in the same condition as on the day it was shipped. All used LPs are play-graded on a VPI turntable with Audioquest tonearm and Grado cartridge.
