CONDITION DETAILS 180 gram, 1999 remaster. Vinyl plays nicely (play-graded in it's entirety). Cover looks great; no scuffing (front and back), slight damage to the top-left corner (visible in photo). Inner sleeve is original (static-free). Spine is unbroken, clean, and easy-to-read. little-to-no shelf-wear along the top and bottom-edge. Opening is crisp with signs of light use. (Not a cut-out.)

ABOUT THE RECORD Pet Sounds, by the Beach Boys, has been recognized as one of the most influential records in the history of popular music and one of the best albums of the 1960s. It features songs such as Wouldn't It Be Nice (#8 Billboard Hot 100) and God Only Knows (#39 Hot 100) as well as singles Sloop John B (#3) and Caroline, No (#32). Pet Sounds was created several months after Brian Wilson had quit touring with the band in order to focus his attention on writing and recording. In it, he wove elaborate layers of vocal harmonies, coupled with sound effects and unconventional instruments such as bicycle bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, Electro-Theremin, dog whistles, trains, Hawaiian-sounding string instruments, Coca-Cola cans and barking dogs, along with the more usual keyboards and guitars. Although Pet Sounds was met with strong sales abroad, reaching #2 in the UK, it charted lower in the US than the majority of the band's preceding albums, peaking at #10 on the Billboard 200. A heralding album in the emerging psychedelic rock style, Pet Sounds has been championed and emulated for its dramatic and revolutionary baroque pop instrumentation. It was ranked at number one in several music magazines' lists of greatest albums of all time, including NME, The Times and Mojo Magazine. It ranked number two on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. It was preserved in the National Recording Registry in 2004 by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant." The album has inspired many progressive rock bands and was later named as one of Classic Rock magazine's "50 Albums That Built Prog Rock". Pet Sounds also helped cement The Beach Boys as the founders of California Rock. The Beach Boys managed to creatively incorporate both forward-thinking values, while continuing to perpetuate the American teenage fantasy of that era.
