Brief Artist & Album Info: Pet Sounds is the eleventh studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys released on May 16, 1966. It initially met with a lukewarm critical and commercial response in the United States, peaking at number 10 in the Billboard 200, a significantly lower placement than the band's preceding albums. In the United Kingdom, the album was hailed by its music press and was an immediate commercial success, peaking at number 2 in the UK Top 40 Albums Chart and remaining among the top ten positions for six months. Originally promoted as "the most progressive pop album ever", Pet Sounds attracted recognition for its ambitious recording and unusually sophisticated music, and is widely considered to be one of the most influential albums in music history.

The album was produced and arranged by Brian Wilson who also wrote and composed almost all of its music. Most of the recording sessions were conducted between January and April 1966, a year after he had quit touring with the Beach Boys in order to focus more attention on writing and recording. For Pet Sounds, Wilson's goal was to create "the greatest rock album ever made"—a personalized work with no filler tracks. It is sometimes considered a Wilson solo album, repeating the themes and ideas he had introduced with The Beach Boys Today! One year earlier. The album's lead single "Caroline No" was issued as his official solo debut. It was followed by two singles credited to the groups "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (backed with "God Only Knows") and "Sloop John B".

CONDITION

LABELS: The Silver & Black with Rainbow Surround Capitol Records Labels are both in relatively decent condition. There are some spindle marks visible and the center whole is worn. There is also a tiny white mark on side 1 beneath the title The Beach Boys and above the song title Wouldn't It Be Nice (please see pictures) It also has the KT (tax code) stamped on side 2 of the Label. They also has the statement "SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LIST" on both sides above the left hand Capitol Records logo, which is indicative to a First Pressing. I would rather be on the conservative side with this grading so I will grade them as GOOD+!!!!

VINYL:

Plays throughout absolutely brilliant with no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are several surface marks and thumbnails to be seen, these in NO way interfere with the superb sound quality. This Album plays up to and  beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from Brian Wilson. Minimal surface sound and no tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing album, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Very Good++!!!! If it looked as good as it played back I would most certainly give it at least an Excellent!!!!

COVER: 

This is a laminated front cover format printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd with the Patent Pending.

This Truly is a Beautiful cover and is in Very Good shape. There are no laminate lifts, tears or writing anywhere to be seen, there are just a few very light laminate creases that should be expected from a cover of this age, the flipbacks are intact and not lifted and the white back has slightly mellowed with age. 

This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Excellent condition simply because of it's design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade this as Very Good+!!!!

COVER SUMMARY: Not seen often, this one is in very nice condition with only gentle clues of age. This classic cover should please Many collectors.

INNER SLEEVE: The Plain White Inner Sleeve. Graded as Very Good++!!!!

Album Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint, the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever use. So I will only offer Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus,plus)!!!!

Postage: All of my records will be professionally packaged. I use Dependapack Vinyl Record Mailers that have locking tab closures with strong locking tab record wraps. I also use corrugated record stiffeners and extra strong tape marked with Handle With Care. This is to ensure your Valuable Record/s are protected whilst in transit. I will add a nominal fee of .40p to my postage and packaging for this service.
