Description

This is the very first private pressing of The Beach Boys “SMiLE” from 1983 in all its historical lofi glory, the "import" that first introduced many of us to SMiLE back in the day, but with no album cover (although it does have the sheet with liner notes credited to James Watt). I bought it like this to have a spare copy of the record and never played it. Back when SMiLE was just a legend, we were amazed that this existed... and it seemed important to have a spare.
Yes, Wind Chimes and Wonderful are from Smiley Smile, Vega-Tables is by Laughing Gravy, and Holidays is actually Miles Davis' Here Come De Honey Man... but somehow the chaotic version of Good Vibrations and the extra speed on Mrs. O'Leary's Cow captured the weirdness and wildness of the music in ways that BWPS or the SMiLE Sessions don't. And the lo-finess only deepened our fascination with this music, and the mystery of what else lay in the vaults. Listening to this back then was like picking up strangely beautiful and sometimes scary radio signals from some distant universe. Maybe you had to be there.
