Brief Artist & Album Info: "Summer Days (Summer Nights)" is the ninth Studio Album by American rock band The Beach Boys, released on July 5, 1965, on Capitol. Capitol. The band's previous album, "The Beach Boys Today" (March 1965), represented a departure for the group through its abandonment of themes related to surfing, cars, and teenage love, but it sold below Capitol's expectations. In response, the label pressured the group to produce bigger hits. "Summer Days" thus returned the band's music to simpler themes for one last album, with Brian combining Capitol’s commercial demands with his artistic calling.

Produced by Brian Wilson "Summer Days" reached number two on the US Billboard US Hot 100 and number four on the UK Albums Chart.  Two singles were issued from the album "Help Me Rhonda",  which became the group's second chart-topper in the US, and "California Girls", which peaked at number three.

"Summer Days (Summer Nights" includes Bruce Johnston's  First appearance on a Beach Boys album. As Brian Wilson's stage replacement, he was not yet considered an "Official" member, but Wilson appreciated Johnston's skills enough to have him contribute vocally and instrumentally on the album. Johnston would often accompany the group on photo shoots, but he was Prohibited from having those pictures published on album covers due to a pre-existing contract with Columbia Records. Consequently, his image would not grace the jacket of a Beach Boy's Album until he appeared on the back cover of "Pet Sounds" in 1966. Along with Johnston, Al Jardine is also missing from the "Summer Days" cover photo depicting the group on a sailboat, having missed the shoot due to illness

CONDITION

LABELS: The Silver & Black with Rainbow Surround Capitol Records Labels are both in Fantastic condition. There are some Very Slight spindle and spider marks visible (ONLY when held to a strong light). They also have the statement "SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LIST" on both sides, which is indicative to a First Pressing. I will grade them as GOOD++/Excellent!!!!

VINYL:

Plays throughout absolutely brilliant with no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are several surface marks and thumbnails to be seen, these in NO way interfere with the superb sound quality. This Album plays up to and  beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from Brian Wilson. Minimal surface sound and no tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing album, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Very Good++!!!! If it looked as good as it played back I would most certainly give it at least an Excellent!!!!

COVER: 

This is a laminated front cover format printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd with the Patent Pending.

This Truly is a Beautiful cover and is in Very Good shape. There are no laminate Lifts, Tears or Writing anywhere to be seen. The Flipbacks are intact and not Lifted and the White back has only Slightly mellowed with age. The pinched edge Spine is in Perfect order as are All edges. The ONLY thing wrong with it, is that a previous owner/record shop have placed a Small sticker to the top right on the back of the cover, PLEASE look at my photos 

This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Excellent+ or Excellent ++ condition simply because of it's design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade this as EXCELLENT!!!!

COVER SUMMARY: Not seen often, this one is in very nice condition with only gentle clues of age. This classic cover should please Many collectors.

INNER SLEEVE: The EMI Records Inner Sleeve. Patent Number 1,125,555 is Graded as Very Good++!!!!

Album Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint, the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever use. So I will only offer Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus,plus)!!!!
