READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatlemania! With the Beatles First Pressing 1963 LP Canadian EXCELLENT Vinyl!

If there are two facts that Beatles collectors know whenever they hear the very title of this album, it’s that first, it is credited as the very first Beatles album released in North America, which is true.  And secondly, whenever we see a copy in person, it’s usually in thrashed and gouged condition, and being passed off as having been on the actual filming set of “Jaws.”

This one is almost NM.  By miles, the cleanest copy I’ve ever seen in person.

Vinyl--- The cleanest copy I’ve ever seen in person EXCELLENT.  There are plenty of sellers who could easily pass this one off as a NM copy, and you wouldn’t argue.

Some short, light lines in the dead waxes are present, but not in the grooves.

Side 1 looks nearly unplayed, with the exception of some dulling of the grooves.  Side 2 has the same dulling, and one extremely light hairline that you will need a bare bulb to find.  Because it wasn’t there when the LP was first purchased, it can’t qualify as NM.

Plates--- XEX-447/ XEX-448-6.  As there were no American plates prepared for this album, they were prepared from the British master tapes. 

I did test-play this album, and the mono sound is punchy and loud.  There is some surface noise between tracks, but not crackle. 

My buddy who owns the turntable mentioned something I’d never noticed before, which is that in the song, “All I’ve Got to Do,” you can hear Ringo’s kick drum pedal squeaking while he’s playing.

If a good VPI cleaning clears up the surface noise, this would be a fantastic play copy.  As it is, it’s a great one.  But as a serious collector, I wouldn’t play this one at all.

Cover--- Strong VG+.  In keeping with the beautiful vinyl, this is by far the best cover I have ever seen in my life.  Structurally solid, the seams and spine are muscular strong.  NO SPLIT SEAMS OR SPINE.  Some light streaks on the front cover. There’s one push-in to the bottom right corner, along with some light ringwear, both sides.  And that’s it. 

The black portion of the front cover still has bold and sharp graphics and text.  The white back cover barely shows any yellowing, but it does have light dirtwear.

Thick cardboard construction makes this a first-printed cover, as opposed to the thinner stock and high gloss of the 70’s and 80’s reissues.

Labels--- EXCELLENT/ NM.  Side 1 has just a few white specks in the rainbow between the purple and blue gradients.  Side 2 label is perfect.  The specks that you see in the photos are not dust.  They’re reflections off of the high-gloss.  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Track 3 on Side 2 is listed as “You Really Gotta Hold on Me,” making this copy a first pressing.  Later copies were corrected to “You Really Got a Hold on Me.”

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EXCELLENT.  With the exception of the sleeve having yellowed, it’s in fine condition.  Sleeve lies flat with light record outdent.  Red graphics are bold and clear.  All corners are sharp.  NO SEAM SPLITS.  Not even almost.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: None.  This is a Canadian LP.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
