Beatles 1964 PROMO 45 Ain’t She Sweet Alternate Mix for Airplay ATCO VG/VG+

This promo has a different mix.

I’ve never seen another copy, so I will put it out there right now, I don’t think it is a fake, but I’m not sure.

If anyone has access to a confirmed genuine copy and can compare it to the commercial release, there’s one crucial question. 

The sound quality is identical to the commercial release. 

The sound is loud and punchy on this copy.  The guitars and vocals are bright and the bass is well-defined.

However; this is a different mix than the commercial copy! 

The reverb has been significantly dialed back on this copy, actually making for a much better version.  The song has a far more “live band” sound, and it also features George’s lead guitar in perfect clarity, revealing a mistaked muted note.  Adding the reverb probably covered that. 

The other reason for this mix might have been for better broadcast quality than the reverbed version.  In the days when AM was the only radio broadcasting format, it already broadcasted music with too much high-end.  Rolling the reverb back would have solved the broadcast problem of the track sounding like a very shrill record.  I’d like to compare, but I’ve never found another promo.

Sleeve:  VG+.  Company ATCO sleeve is a little faded, has the number “15” written in red pen, and has slightly yellowed, but not by much.  NO SPLITS.

A generic white sleeve will be provided to protect your company sleeve during shipping.

Vinyl: VG/ VG+.  Side 1 has some scuffs, scratches that can’t be felt with the fingertip and some fingerprints.  Plays EX.  Side 2 is significantly cleaner, but still not NM.

Labels: NM/ NM.  Both labels are very clean.  They in fact, have the indentation around the playhole and the semi-gloss, semi-flat texture consistent with ATCO/ Atlantic 45’s from the early 60’s.

Plates:  Here’s where my concern lies.  Comparing the dead wax information to a genuine copy with “Vocal by John Lennon” to the left of the playhole, the trail-off areas are much thinner.  The hand-etched numbers are almost identical, being 64C-7884X/ 64C-8005.  My known legitimate copy has an “11” suffix on side 2.

Never having seen another promo to compare it to, I don’t know for sure that this copy is legitimate.  I will say that I think it is legitimate with about 90% confidence. 

Please take care to take that into consideration when bidding.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.
