Description
This is a relist and I've lowered the reserve (if it does not sell via this auction it will go into my ebay store at a higher price)...The Beatles "Yesterday And Today" 1966 Capitol T-2553 complete and authentic peeled butcher (guaranteed the real thing)...Excellent Plus condition. I recently made a trip to the midwest, and was able to procure 3 of these "unpeeled" paste-over 2nd-state LP's. I looked only for those with NO seamsplits - and paid a premium to get only the best. As detailed below, I then contracted with Jim Hansen of Blue Jay Way Galleries to professionally peel them (some of you may remember the six I sold at the beginning of the year from Austin, Texas). Top-shelf, high-end, peeled butchers are getting rarer and going up in value thanks in part to the international community. Here is midwest butcher #2...The Beatles 100% guaranteed-real "Yesterday And Today" Capitol T-2553 mono 3rd-state peeled butcher cover LP; the absolute first-pressing from June of 1966. Before the inoffensive trunk cover became the standard photo for this release, Capitol used this avant-garde Bob Whitaker photo taken on March 25, 1966 in Chelsea, London, England. This controversial cover is called the infamous "Butcher" cover...totally recalled just as it was about to be distributed (included in this auction is a copy of the recall letter from Capitol Records dated June 14, 1966). Capitol Records, in a clever cost-saving move, decided to paste a different slick (the "trunk cover") over the 'butcher cover" instead of throwing them all away. I've included the removed "trunk cover" slick with this auction. Again, the slick removal process was performed by Jim Hansen of Blue Jay Way Galleries in Los Angeles - one of only two recognized and qualified firms in the country who do this as a profession. The cover in this auction is Spizer-cataloged as CAP 2553.MC1PL (commonly referred to as a third-state, or peeled cover). It is clean and presentable...and the "peel-job" came out super-detailed revealing the butcher photo...with NO problems! The spine title, logo, and catalog number are clearly legible (somewhat rare with these)...AND CENTERED. There are no splits anywhere. This cover is also still basically white on all the edges (just a little bit of light-tanning at the top edge). On the back, you can see where a small piece of tape was once holding it to a wall (see photo of back cover). This is a #3 pressing plant cover originally manufactured in Scranton, Pennsylvannia. This is one of the nicest butchers available. All edges are straight with 4 pointy corners...again, it is difficult to find an example like this...a 100% near-mint, perfect peel. The matching Scranton record is in VG condition...with gorgeous near-mint labels [Spizer-cataloged as CAP 2553.MR1A]. Just finding these first-pressing, black-label rainbow perimeter records is becoming hard. But importantly, this is the totally appropriate complete matching east coast package...disc, cover, and inner sleeve (this auction also includes the original EAST COAST "goldenrod orange" inner sleeve with the small, "inner-sleeve-specific" catalog number PE-12-2FS in excellent condition). Few people realize inner sleeves can be differentiated...and this is a factor in owning a complete, 100% authentic package. I've also included a brand new record frame with plexiglas front. I've made every effort to provide the winner of this auction THE 100% complete and totally correct "Butcher LP" as it was purchased and experienced exactly 40 years ago...in the best possible condition. Reasonable reserve for this unique, rare and complete keepsake. Due to multiple inquiries, a "numbered" Certificate of Authenticity is available upon request (co-signed by Blue Jay Way Galleries and myself). Condition guaranteed. Buyer to pay $6.00 for double-boxed priority shipping. Insurance is highly recommended. International buyer to request shipping charges. Please email me with any questions.
