Beatles 45 1969 Paperback Writer-Rain “Subsidiary of,” BLACK PERIMETER!
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
Collectors know exactly what they’re looking at. This label variation was only in the shops in 1969 for about as long as an employee’s lunch break. Okay, maybe longer, but this label variation with the black perimeter print is among the toughest variations of Beatles singles to find and complete.
And this is among the toughest titles in that run!
Vinyl: VG+/VG+. Each side retains the lion’s share of original gloss. But there are occasional light marks, and just a little too many for me to be comfortable grading it as EX.
Side 2 has a piece of 1969 fuzz pressed into the grooves. Completely non-feelable. See photo.
Plates: T6/T8. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.
Labels: NM/EX. Side 2 label has a little visible dirtwear at the bottom of the concentric ring.
Sleeve: VG+. Slight uniform yellowing. Some wrinkling at the top, not much. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol company inner sleeve en route.
Dick Rowe famously passed on signing The Beatles to Decca Records, and then kicked himself for the rest of his life. (I love Lennon’s quote from 1964: “Good. I hope he kicks himself to death.”)
You might have just found the perfect Christmas gift for your Beatles collector this year! Don’t be a Dick. (Sorry, that was too easy…)
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.

(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
