Beatles 45 1970 John Lennon PROMO Ronnie Hawkins The Short/Long Rap, EX!
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
For those unfamiliar, this very rare John Lennon PROMO was sent to radio stations only, in 1970 only. John had made radio spots to plug his friend, Ronnie Hawkins’ new single and album. The first single from Ronnie’s new album was called, “Down in the Alley.”
This promo has been counterfeited many times. This is the original genuine promo. Below are the identifiers:
1. Counterfeit copies reference the single’s title, “Down in the Alley.” Genuine copies don’t.
2. The labels on the counterfeit copies were not able to transfer the tiny “R” in the top right corner of the Cotillion box. They’re missing on the fakes. They’re present on this copy.
3. Cotillion was a subsidiary label of Atlantic Records. All Atlantic 45’s from the time had a distinct hand-etched “AT” in their dead waxes, large and bold, and that included on their subsidiary labels, Cotillion and ATCO. Counterfeits have either no “AT” present in their dead waxes, or else they have a much smaller, far different “AT” that someone had tried to add.
**This copy ticks all the boxes of the genuine promo. And it’s in collector’s grade condition.**
Vinyl: EX/EX. Another seller wouldn’t be wrong to grade this copy NM, but I can see a few extremely short and light lines in the vinyl that wasn’t there when the 45 was pressed.
Plates: All appropriate dead wax maekings are present. In addition to the “AT” on both sides, there’s also the promo catalogue numbers, PR-104/PR-105. Hand-etched delta preceding the job number, 79291 is also present on both sides. Definitely the genuine promo.
Labels: EX/EX. Light dirtwear on both sides, otherwise both labels are nice and clean, white with the slight cream-colored tint.
Sleeve: VG. Original 1970 company Atlantic sleeve is present. Has yellowed over the last 55 years. 2-inch bottom center seam split.
**Note: All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.**
Think your Beatles collector has everything, and there’s nothing you could get them for Christmas? What do you want to bet they’d be bug-eyed, finding this under the tree, come Christmas morning?
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
