Beatles 45 PS Lady Madonna with 2 Different First Pressing Label Variations
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
For auction this week are several Beatles picture sleeves which feature two different first pressing 45 label variations. The second variation discussed will always be the harder one to find.

Lady Madonna/ The Inner Light
Sleeve: Nice VG. Straight-cut east coast sleeve. Moderate ringwear to both sides keeps this sleeve in the VG range. Otherwise, it has light to moderate wrinkles and finger divots per side. NO SEAM SPLITS.
No fan club flyer is included.
East coast pressing with running times on both sides. This is the most common first pressing labels for this title.
Vinyl: VG+/ EXCELLENT. Side one has just enough light angel hairs to keep the grade from going any higher, although the vinyl still looks nice and glossy. Side two vinyl is almost unplayed-looking, with only a few insignificant complaints.
Labels: VG/ NM. And the only thing keeping the side one label from getting the coveted NM grade is that the previous owner wrote the number 47 in black ballpoint, because they’re very gently stupid.
Plates: G2/ G6. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters “IAM” inside make this a Scranton pressing.
MUCH scarcer version two Los Angeles first pressing, with the widely-spaced and rounded font. Most people didn’t make the connection, but if you compress the gaps in the font of this variation, you end up with the font that was used on Los Angeles pressings of the 1971 Apple reissue of the “Lady Madonna” single.
Vinyl: EXCELLENT, both sides. So desperately close to a NM grade that I was tempted to let my conservative grading policy slip. You’ll see what I mean. Definitely a keeper.
Labels: NM, both labels. 1968-brand new, just pressed-looking labels.
Plates: F7/ F7. Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax on both sides makes this a Los Angeles pressing.
It would be best to not make the mistake of thinking you can find these readily, and in this condition. Seriously.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.

(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
