Beatles 45 Vee Jay 1964 Christmas Sleeve Please Please Me & Ornament, EX!
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
For sale this week are 5 Vee Jay-issued singles, housed in the 5 different Vee Jay company sleeves from the early 60’s.
This is the infamous “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” Vee Jay sleeve from the 1964 Christmas season. And in 50 years of collecting, it’s the best condition I’ve ever seen this sleeve. It’s been my keeper since 1981. Now, some other serious collector should have it for their keeper collection.
Comes with a Christmas ornament of this very issue! How fun is that?
Vinyl: Strong VG. This copy occupies the space between VG and VG+. Vinyl does have light scratches and a scuff or two. But it still retains quite a lot of original gloss.
Plates: Machine-stamp “Audio Matrix” appears on both sides. Hand-etched job number is present also.
Labels: EX/VG+. Vee Jay brackets with the silver crossbars. Side 1 is Excellent. Side 2 has just a couple of very light lines.
Sleeve: EX. Sleeve has lightly yellowed, and that’s about it. Colors are still merry and bright. Sleeve is very flat, maybe just a light wrinkle. Light record outdent. Corners are flat with barely frayed tips. The worst of it for this sleeve is that there are glue strips down each side on the back, which is common for all of Vee Jay’s sleeves. NO SPLIT SEAMS. Not even almost.
**Note: All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.**
**This was my keeper for 44 years. Now it’s yours if you keep it away from fire or flames. Or water. Or baby puke-up.**
**Christmas ornament is metal. It will be overly-protected in bubble wrap, so as not to be able to come into contact with the sleeve or record.**
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
