Description
This is a one-owner (me), second-state, first-pressing, mono (T-2553) version of the Beatles' "Yesterday and Today" LP with the butcher cover underneath. No attempt has ever been made to peel the trunk cover. The code number on the back lower right is 3, indicating that it was pressed at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, Capitol Records plant. Except for still sealed copies, this is the cleanest, most complete, 2nd-state, mono butcher I have seen on eBay in a long time.
Everything is present (record jacket, inner sleeve and vinyl disc) and all are in excellent condition. The record jacket has been kept in a protective outer sleeve for the last thirty years. The inner sleeve has always been well cared for too. The vinyl disc has been in an archival inner sleeve, also for 30 years. I have always used high end turntables, kept my vinyl clean and treated with respect so that wear to the record has been minimal.
RECORD JACKET: There are no splits on the top, side or bottom spines. The front cover is very nearly pristine white with a hint of superficial scuffing in the white area and slight ring wear only in the color area across the bottom of the trunk. The back cover has slight ring wear from the earliest days on my ownership before I placed it in a protective sleeve. The pastedown has a tiny one-eighth inch curl at the lower right corner, again from the time before I protected it in an outer sleeve. This is definitely the butcher album. The trunk cover was pasted down slightly askew so that part of the butcher cover is visible in the upper left corner. Also, the "V" of Ringo's dark shirt can be plainly seen--see the photo of that area (I have adjusted the contrast and color of the photo to enhance the "V" underneath).
INNER SLEEVE: There are no tears, scuffs, folds or bent corners. This is the "Capitol '66" inner sleeve which was issued only with the original pressing the the LP. See photo.
VINYL DISC: There are no scratches or any other damage to the vinyl. It still has its glossy shine, as if new. The label is also pristine. It is the original issue black label with the rainbow border and the white print in perimeter. See photo.
As you probably know, 2nd-state (unpeeled) copies of the butcher album are becoming rarer and rarer. Each year more copies are peeled to reveal the butcher photo beneath. Some of these restorers are amateurs who ruin the value by destroying both the trunk cover and the butcher cover. Some are professional restorers who perform an excellent peel, but in doing so, increase the number of peeled butchers and decrease the number of original second-state covers. In time, an unpeeled cover will probably exceed the value of a peeled cover, due to its having become the rarest state of all.
I will package this for safest shipment, sealed against moisture, and enclosed in a sturdy box. I do not charge a handling fee for mailing. The cost of domestic Priority Mail postage, insurance and packing material will be $12.00. Please email me for airmail postage costs if you live outside the United States. PayPal is my prefered method of payment, but I also accept either a money order or a personal check. Shipment will be made within 1-2 business days of payment if made by PayPal or money order. A check requires a waiting period of 10-14 days for bank clearance.
