Description
The UK Beatles for Sale album was released on 4 December 1964 by Parlophone, produced by George Martin, and marked a darker, more introspective turn in the Beatles’ music compared to their earlier upbeat records. Genres: Pop rock, folk rock, rock and roll, country. Recording Period: August–October 1964 at EMI Studios, London, during the height of Beatlemania. It is a gatefold sleeve, unusual for UK albums at the time, with liner notes by Derek Taylor. The cover, photographed by Robert Freeman in Hyde Park, London, shows the Beatles looking weary and reflective, perfectly capturing the mood of the album. In the UK, it was their fourth studio album, following A Hard Day’s Night. In the U.S., many of its tracks were repackaged into Beatles ’65. Label: Parlophone (PCS 3062 for stereo, PMC 1240 for mono). This is the true Stereo analog version. Matrix/dead wax etching: A Beatles for Sale LP with YEX 124‑5‑1 (side one) and YEX 143‑6 (side two) is a 1970s UK stereo reissue, pressed on the black/silver Parlophone label. It’s not a 1964 first pressing, but it’s a solid vintage copy with strong audio quality. (124-5, & 124-6 were the 5th generation and 6th generation cuts from the original master tapes in the UK.) These were pressed between 1976 to 1979 in the UK. A later UK reissue, still analog‑cut at EMI, with excellent sound quality but less rarity. Label variation is the black/silver “two‑box EMI” Parlophone label. Release Date (UK): 10 July 1964. Catalog Number: PCS 3062 → UK stereo edition. Producer: George Martin.
