Description

I have acquired quite a few gems in my years of collecting vinyl. I believe that this may be my prettiest gem yet. I have #3 of 300 of the very rare Beatles "From the Vault" Grey box set. It is still sealed, just as it was when it was issued in 1986 (I believe). Story has it that my brother bought it from a garage sale of the guy who made the set. The guy said that he has #1 and his son has #2..
Here is some info on the set -

It is colored vinyl. Included is a T shirt with the "Beatles From the Vault" logo.  Here's the intro from the Grey Box 18 page booklet"
"From the Vault has been compiled in such a way as to compliment the blue Beatles Collection box set. This set, taken together with the Blue Box, will give a more accurate picture of the Beatles' recorded work from 1962-1970. In this set you'll find audition tapes, studio recordings from the BBC, songs recorded for release but not used, a collection of Christmas messages, and other tracks of historical interest. Also included is Get Back, an album that was released to radio stations in March of 1969, but recalled before its commercial release."

The 8 LPs are...

Decca Tapes
From Us To You
Broadcasts
File Under One
File Under Two
Get Back
No.3 Abbey Road NW8
The Christmas Album

Most of the material is from other sources and compiled. A good example is the Christmas album. Here they have collected all of the Beatles christmas tracks over the years and put them on one album. These were the Christmas messages the Beatles used to send out to their UK fan club members on 'flexy disks' (very thin vinyl records).
Here's an excerpt from pages 12-13 of the booklet: "Get Back was originally conceived as a return to roots album. For this project, the Beatles would once again record their songs live, like in the early days, sacrificing perfection that over-dubbing offered, but gaining spontaneity and feeling. Two different versions of the album were assembled before the project was shelved. This is the first version of Get Back LP, as produced by George Martin. Released to 200 US radio stations in March 1969, it was recalled by Apple after 3 weeks. This is NOT a copy from a tape of one of those LPs. This record has been mastered from the original stereo source tape."

That's really all the info I can find on it. Happy Bidding and thanks for taking a look at this super rare Beatles collectors item!
