Description

In this auction:

  • ELECTRONIC SOUND” LP by George Harrison

  • This is Zapple Records ST - 3358.

  • This LP was issued May 26, 1969.

  • The May 31, 1969 Cash Box music industry magazine had a full page advertisement entitled ‘A’ is for Apple, ‘Z’ is for Zapple with the purpose of “introducing Zapple, a new label from Apple Records”. In this ad are the following comments from Apple about the new Zapple Records label:

What is Zapple about? We want to publish all sorts of sounds. Some of these sounds will be spoken, some electronic, some classical. We’ll be producing recorded interviews, too. Some of the people we put on record will be well-known; some not well-known. This means that you’ll get plenty of variety. We don’t want Zapple to become a one track record label. We’ll publish almost anything providing it’s valid and good. We’re not going to put out rubbish, at any price.

The first 2 Zapples will be out May 26th. One’s by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It’s called ‘Life with the Lions: Unfinished music No. 2’.

The other’s by George Harrison. It’s called ‘Electronic Sound’. This is a new thing for George. It’s all done on a machine called a Moog Synthesiser. One side’s called ‘Under the Mersey Wall’. The other’s called ‘No Time or Space’

The third Zapple will be by American poet Richard Brautigan. It’ll be called ‘Listening to Richard Brautigan’. We’re hoping to release it soon along with one other, which we’ve yet to decide on…..Our future Zapples will include records by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Michael McClure, Charles Olson, Allen Ginsberg and American comedian Lord Buckley.

So listen to Zapple, it’s something else again.

  • Unfortunately, the first two LPs issued by Zapple Records were also the last two LPs issued by Zapple Records. The third Zapple record was never released. Nor were the other planned issues stated in the ad.

  • So, in this auction is one of the only two Zapple LP Titles ever issued.

  • The LP in this auction is the ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING. It is NOT the LP that was issued in the George Harrison Vinyl Collection Box Set in February of 2017.

  • The COVER is in NEAR MINT (NM) CONDITION and STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP. There is a Turtle’s Record

Store sticker on the front shrink wrap. There is just a small “push” on the top right corner at the opening and a tiny bit of wear on the bottom right corner at the opening.

  • The VINYL is in VERY STRONG VG+ CONDITION. Only several very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs kept me from grading the vinyl Near Mint. (None of these are “feelable” at all and really not even close to being “feelable”.)

  • This LP also comes with its ORIGINAL CUSTOM PAPER INNER SLEEVE that has some corner wrinkles from the production/insertion process and a 2-inch split on the bottom edge at the center. (Often this original sleeve is missing from used copies of this LP.)

An UNCOMMON ORIGINAL ZAPPLE RECORDS LP for your vinyl collection!
