READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality.
They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute.
Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
So with that said…
Beatles Guard Scene SCARCE 1968 LP National Guard LP, Beatles, Beach Boys VG+!
During the Vietnam era, there were weekly radio shows broadcast to the soldiers that were put out by the military, which are very difficult to find now. As the military had paid royalties to artists to broadcast their music, these records were to be sent back and destroyed. The more famous collectible series is The “In” Sound, produced by the U.S. Army.
This series is called “Guard Scene,” put out by the National Guard. Not quite as desirable, because they tended to broadcast some of the lesser-popular, shall we say, artists, such as Herman’s Hermits, Gene Pitney, Johnny Rivers, Vikki Carr, Herb Alpert, etc.
**You NEVER see the record from this series with The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
Broadcast dates were as follows:
Side 1: June 16, 1968 and June 23, 1968.
Side 2: June 30, 1968 and July 7, 1968.
Vinyl--- VG+/VG+. Both sides shine like new, however; each side has just two or three light scuffs that can’t be felt with the fingertip.
Plates--- GC 145-146/ GC 147-148.
Cover--- VG. Structurally solid, NO SPLIT SEAMS. Moderate dirtwear and small stain on back cover, though.
Labels--- EX/EX. Each label is supposed to be embossed with the words, “Our National Guard Music Shop.” The Side 1 label was stamped so many times that the text is AFU! Side 2 label is much more legible.
Inner Sleeve--- Generic white.
**If you miss this copy, you’ve probably missed it for your collection for good.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
