Description
In this auction:
-
“IMAGINE” LP by John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band (comprised of the following depending on the song: Klaus Voorman, Alan White, Steve Brendel, George Harrison, Nicky Hopkins, Rod Linton, Ted Turner, Rod Linton, John Tout, John Barham, Jim Gordon, King Curtis, and Mike Pinder.
-
This LP is Apple Records SW - 3379.
-
It was issued September 9, 1971.
-
“IMAGINE” was released when relations between the former song-writing team and band-mates had taken a nose-dive at that time which is reflected in John’s tune on this LP, “How Do You Sleep?”.
-
This LP has Custom Apple Labels with “MFD BY APPLE RECORDS, INC.” printed on the perimeter of the labels. This identifies the LP as a FIRST ORIGINAL APPLE PRESSING of “IMAGINE”. (Second Apple pressings had the “All rights reserved...” disclaimer also printed on the labels which were slightly blue-green tinted.)
-
This LP was also issued with 1 of 2 photo cards that measured 4” x 6”. One PHOTO CARD, which is included in this auction, shows John and Yoko as characters from mythology, with John playing pipes like Pan and Yoko as a woods nymph. (The other photo card shows John holding a pig by the ears as a parody of Paul McCartney’s “Ram” LP cover image of Paul holding a ram’s horns.) The photo card included in each LP often went missing over time, so it’s a real plus to have it included in this one! This PHOTO CARD is NEAR MINT.
-
The “IMAGINE” LP was also issued with a 22” x 33” POSTER picturing John at his white piano. THIS POSTER IS ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION. It came folded inside the LP. It is in VERY STRONG VG+ CONDITION. Only a very light horizontal fold across the poster on the top 2 sections keeps me from grading it Near Mint. There are NO holes at the fold junctures caused by unfolding and refolding the poster over time. This poster is also often missing from the LP, because often it went up taped on a wall and then was later discarded.
-
Finally, also included is the DIE-CUT PAPER INNER SLEEVE that has PHOTOS, LYRICS, and CREDITS printed on it. There were 2 different inner sleeves issued with this LP. Earlier inner sleeves DID NOT have the copyright information printed on the sleeve while later inner sleeves did have the Northern Songs copyright printing on the sleeve. The inner sleeve in this auction is the EARLIER INNER SLEEVE that does not have the copyright information after the songs. (I have included an image of both the earlier and later Apple sleeves side by side showing the one in this auction without the Northern Songs copyright information printed above the line of asterisks and the later Apple sleeve, not included in this auction, with the Northern Songs copyright information printed above the line of asterisks. This EARLIER SLEEVE included is VG CONDITION with a 3-inch split on one side and a 1-inch wide band of paper aging discoloration/foxing down one edge and part of another edge.
-
The COVER is graded NEAR MINT. The cover is heavily laminated, and the cover construction is cardboard with front cover slick that wraps over the rear cover slick. It is NOT made of poster-board which was used in later post-Apple repressings.
-
The VINYL is NICE VG+ CONDITION with very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs and lots of gloss.
