Description
This is my copy of Let It Be purchased within a few days of release in 1970. It is the boxed set and comes complete with its copy of the Get Back book which is virtually mint. It is the updated version with the original mistakes in the credits list, which had been overcome in early copies by sticking in a label, corrected. The record sleeve has the red apple symbol which was changed to green in later issues sold without the box.
The labels are in excellent condition with spindle trails providing evidence of its use - which is not excessive. The disc surface is excellent with no discernable scratches - just a couple of finger marks. It plays excellent. The record serial is PCS 7096 with side 1 identified on the label by matrix reference YEX 773 and side 2 by YEX 774. The lacquer number stamped on the playing surface run out is YEX 773-2U on side 1 and YEX 774-2U on side 2. additional identification marks stamped are as follows: side 1 mother number is 2, and stamper code is O indicating that this is produced from stamper number 5. side 2 has a confusing mother ident in that it has a 1 and a badly impressed number 2 - there is some suggestion that the 2 may have a crossing through it indicating that perhaps it was produced from the first mother. This suggestion is possibly reinforced by the stamper code which is GA indicating stamper 13 (but I don't know enough about all this to determine whether 13 is a likely transition point - I would have thought that more than 13 stampers would be produced from a mother). However side 1 is from the second mother so perhaps side 2 is as well. All this might be largely irrelevant to the casual collector who just wants an excellent copy of an historical and collectable record set.
The disc sleeve is white with MADE IN ENGLAND and PATENT No. 1,125,555 on one side. It has no fading and has no other marks, tears and minimal creases. It has the unavoidable impression of the record.
The album sleeve is of internal seam construction and its condition is very good. It has two or three minor creases towards the open side. The edges of the sleeve are a little worn and the corners have minimal dog-ears. The spine is narrow and is a little rubbed with some delamination - the record ident is completely legible however.
The Get Back book in excellent condition is contained in a cardboard tray made in two parts. The inner has two tears to the right hand one to each of the top and bottom packing pieces (a weak point) - the left hand one is creased but not actually torn. The inner tray which retains the book is then contained in a separate outer which has flaps to left and right that contain the record sleeve is the main outer cover. This is a little rubbed at the corners as shown. I am aware that it is possible to buy replacement trays but I felt it was important to keep the original set together for this sale to maintain authenticity and provenance.
This whole package then slides into the main outer sleeve which has no identification title or number - just the Beatles' photographs reproduced from the album sleeve. The back of the main outer sleeve has the designer and photographer credits and the packing manufacturer - in this case Garrod & Lofthouse.
One would be hard pushed to find a better example considering it is getting on for 41 years old - and has been in my personal collection for that entire period. I have now retired from work and have moved - selling only because of a need to downsize.
Happy to respond to any questions - and watch for other albums coming up over the next few days/weeks!!
Offered at a low starting price but have protected its collectability by setting a realistic reserve.
