READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

I took in a large collection of Beatles albums this week, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

Beatles LP 1964 Something New MONO Consigned RCA First Press RARE Dark Blue Floor, EX!

Some collectors are aware that MONO copies of “Something New” were issued with covers that show The Beatles standing on a light blue floor.  Stereo covers show them standing on a light blue, almost white floor.  (See compere photos.)

A very small amount of RCA MONO covers have them standing on a VERY dark blue floor.  These are hen’s teeth rare covers!  I’ve come across maybe half a dozen of them in 50 years.

Surprised to find one in this collection, it isn’t NM.  But it’s still a great copy!

Vinyl--- EX/VG+.  Side 1 has just a few extremely light lines, but mostly has original gloss.  Side 2 has the same, except with a couple of longer, more visible light lines.  None are feelable.

Plates--- P2/P2.  Additionally, both sides have “A1” hand-etched into the dead wax, indicating that these are the first plates that RCA had received from Capitol.

Both sides have a machine-stamped letter “R” in the dead wax, indicating that this copy was pressed from RCA lathes.

Cover--- Strong VG.  Front cover has vibrant-new graphics, colors are full bold.  Back cover has just a hint of dirtwear and ringwear.  Presents as an EX cover.

**However, top seam has a two-inch split at the top right, and the bottom seam has a three-inch split at the bottom right.** See photos.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Deeply-cut concentric groove closer to the outer edge of the labels come from RCA lathes.  Last track on Side 2 has the name of the translator misspelled as “Nicholas,” which only appeared on first pressing labels.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Original blue Capitol inner sleeve is present.  Inner sleeve is also printed unusually darker cobalt blue than most sleeves from late 1964.  Presents beautifully, except that it has a 3 ½-inch center bottom seam split.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 2

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
