READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles LP 1966 Rubber Soul MONO First Pressing in Shrink, Nice Vinyl, Consignment Copy!

VERY nice MONO copy of Rubber Soul.  Collectors are aware that the mono mixes of Beatles albums have slight differences than the stereo mix does.  In this case, listen for the notorious cough in “Norwegian Wood” after the line, “and she told me to sit anywhere.”  It occurs just after the third guitar strum.

The cover is very beautiful, so if you ever come across a NM copy of the vinyl, you will have an impressive keeper.  As it stands though, this vinyl is still a more-than-respectable play copy.

Vinyl--- VG.  Not as nice as the MONO Revolver for sale this week  Retains about 70% original gloss, this copy suffers from the fact that some inexperienced person tried to clean the vinyl with something abrasive, that left very light swish marks on Side 1.  Side 2 also has its share of light scratches.  Far more than I’m comfortable with as a keeper, this copy is still a very respectable play copy!

Plates--- G16/G12. This consignment pressing was pressed by RCA.  It has hybrid plates, which is really cool.  The “RCA” hand-etched lettering is present, but also present is the Los Angeles asterisk.  You usually see one or the other on RCA LP’s, so this one’s an oddity for having both.  Check your RCA copies.

Cover--- Nice VG+.  Original 1965 price tags on the front cover! 

**The main issue is that the back cover has moderate to heavy yellowing down the mouth, where the shrinkwrap exposed the flat, white slick.  Other than that area, the cover is white where it should be, and bold and colorful everywhere else.  Shrink is split down the spine.

Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover.  One is in the letter, “O” in “Soul.”  The other is due south in George’s hair, because for some reason, George always gets a breathe hole.

Labels--- NM/NM.  First pressing labels do not say “The Beatles” on their labels, as this one doesn’t.

Deep trench concentric groove on each label comes from RCA lathes.  These records have a deeper back-to-front information in sound quality from RCA, and not quite as much high-end.  RCA Studios used those great Neumann microphones throughout the 50’s and 60’s, and their mono records have some of the best “in-the-room” sounds.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Olive-green Capitol inner sleeve is present.  All three seams have small splits, all less than an inch long.  Sleeve is flat, colors are still bold.  Sleeve presents very well.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 5. This is an elusive one, issued from the west coast for only some consignment copies.  Others have the usual 6.  It’s important to keep this one nice if you get it.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
